Chiefs sign up Fijian flyer Matawalu

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Niko Matawalu can add some real ‘X-Factor’ to his backline after he today agreed a deal until the end of the season.

The Fijian international will head to Sandy Park from Aviva Premiership rivals Bath Rugby and will join up with his new team-mates once the current autumn internationals are concluded.

Equally at home either on the wing or at scrum-half, Baxter believes the 27-year-old is a great addition to the Chiefs make-up and is excited at what he can bring to the club moving forward.

“Initially Niko’s...

Derby Day defeat hurts Steenson

Gareth Steenson insists he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates will pick themselves up despite suffering yet more late heartache during Sunday’s Aviva Premiership clash with rivals Bath.

Semesa Rokoduguni’s converted try – seven minutes into added on time – saw the Chiefs undone right at the death, eventually going down 13-10 in front of a capacity crowd at Sandy Park.

Not for the first time this season, Rob Baxter’s side were again left to wallow in yet another narrow reverse that has left them seventh in the current Premiership standings.

However, skipper Steenson...

Chiefs v Bath sold out

Sunday's Aviva Premiership clash between Exeter Chiefs and Bath Rugby is now officially sold out.

The final tickets for the much anticipated encounter were sold this afternoon and will mean over 12,500 fans will be packed inside Sandy Park.

It will be the first meeting of the two clubs this season with the Chiefs - currently fifth in the Premiership standings - looking to overcome third-placed Bath, who have lost only once under new Director of Rugby, Todd Blackadder.

Exeter Rugby Club chairman and chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, said: "Games between ourselves and...

Exeter Chiefs 27 Gloucester 27

Damian Welch’s last-gasp try snatched a dramatic draw for Exeter Chiefs in an enthralling derby with Gloucester at Sandy Park.

With less than a minute remaining, Gloucester’s hopes of a second Aviva Premiership victory of the season were dashed when the Chiefs mauled their way over in the left-hand corner to tie the scores at 27-27.

Even then Rob Baxter’s side could have won it at the death, but the normally deadly Gareth Steenson was unable to land the tricky conversion from wide on the touchline.

Following a disappointing 15-6 defeat at the hands of Bath Rugby...

Chiefs side to face Bristol

Rob Baxter has warned his Exeter Chiefs side to prepare for battle ahead of tomorrow night’s Westcountry derby with Bristol in Round Four of this season’s Aviva Premiership (7:45pm).

Going head to head for the first time since the Chiefs pipped their rivals to the post in the inaugural RFU Championship Play-Off final six years ago, there appears to be plenty at stake as the two ready themselves to lock horns at Ashton Gate. Baxter is well aware of what has transpired at both clubs in the years that have passed since that wet and wild night at the Memorial Stadium, but it’s present...

Local Charities benefit from work of Exeter Foundation

The success of the Exeter Foundation was highlighted in all its glory as 18 local charities and organisations were rewarded at Saturday night’s Season Launch Dinner held at Sandy Park.

A grand total of over £53,000 – raised through match-day bucket and car park collections – was distributed to the charities and organisations following another hugely successful year for the charity.

Each charity was also given an extra £1,000 as a gesture of thanks for their ongoing good work that they continuously provide for the citizens of Exeter and surrounding areas.

Set up in...

Chiefs side to face Dragons

Rob Baxter says his Exeter Chiefs side must ready themselves for a “full blooded” encounter when they travel to Newport this evening in their final pre-season friendly against the Dragons at Rodney Parade (7:30pm).

Having warmed up with home wins over Scarlets (45-3) and Ulster Rugby (25-19), Baxter is hoping this final engagement will serve as the perfect warm-up for his players ahead of their Aviva Premiership opener at Wasps on Sunday week.

And unlike the two previous games, the Chiefs will travel with a more refined playing squad – similar to that of a normal match-day...

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Ollie Devoto says he and his team-mates must make the most of the club’s final pre-season run-out when they tackle the Newport-Gwent Dragons on Friday night (7:30pm).

Having chalked up friendly wins over the Scarlets and Ulster Rugby, Rob Baxter’s side will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run of games at Rodney Parade.

Devoto, a summer signing from Aviva Premiership rivals Bath, knows it’s a vital fixture not only to sharpen up skills and match fitness, but will be the final chance to impress ahead of the club’s seasonal opener at Wasps on...

Chiefs kick off season with six-try victory

Rob Baxter challenged his troops to deliver in battle ahead of their opening pre-season fixture against the Scarlets at a sun-baked Sandy Park.

Keen to ensure his class of 2016/17 hit the new season firing on all cylinders, the Exeter Chiefs head coach said it was vital those given their chance against the Welsh region made the most of the opportunity afforded to them.

In an often one-sided encounter, last season’s Aviva Premiership runners-up simply had too much in all departments for the Scarlets, whose scant reward on a sizzling summer’s day was a first half penalty from...
