It’s not been quite the same whirlwind start to the season as it was 12 months ago for Thomas Waldrom, but the Exeter Chiefs forward isn’t complaining as long as the Devon club continue to produce the winning formula.

England international Waldrom enjoyed an amazing first year in Chiefs colours, scoring 16 tries in total following his move from Aviva Premiership rivals Leicester Tigers.

His tally ensured he not only finished top of the touchdown pile for Rob Baxter’s side, but he was also crowned the first forward since Neil Back in 1999 to be the Premiership’s top try-...

Addressing a large crowd at the club’s Sandy Park base, club chairman and chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, said it has been another ‘fantastic’ year for the Aviva Premiership outfit.

Members were informed that the Devon club had recorded their best-ever financial results, aided in itself by the excellent on the field displays from the Chiefs, who finished in their highest-ever position in the Premiership, as well as reaching the...

Baxter wasn't approached for England job

Rob Baxter thoughts were never on the possibility of taking over as England’s head coach this past week but on his side bouncing back from last week’s defeat by Ospreys to kick start their European Champions Cup.

His Exeter Chiefs side’s first victory against French opposition came with a 34-19 bonus point victory over Bordeaux-Bègles on a bitterly cold night at Sandy Park after the 9,577 crowd had observed a one-minute silence in memory of those killed in Paris last week.

Baxter wasn’t disappointed that England didn’t give him a call when they were looking for a...

Chiefs return to winning ways

Exeter’s European escapades are back on track after the Chiefs returned to winning ways with a comfortable 34-19 victory over French visitors Bordeaux-Begles.

Rob Baxter’s side dominated for large periods in this Round Two encounter, running in four tries on the night courtesy of Olly Woodburn (2), Moray Low and Ian Whitten. England international Henry Slade landed the remainder of the points for the Aviva Premiership side, slotting four penalties and a conversion in an assured performance at fly-half.

Bordeaux – who were tasting Europe’s top competition for the first time...

Chiefs side to face Bordeaux-Begles

Exeter Chiefs assistant coach Ali Hepher is confident he will see a response from his side as they look to get their European Champions Cup campaign up and running with victory over Bordeaux-Begles on Saturday night (21 November, ko 7:45pm).

Undone 25-13 by the Ospreys in Round One, the Chiefs know this latest match-up against their French visitors is vital if they are to stand any chance of progressing out of Pool Two this season.

The Chiefs have spent this past week reviewing in detail their disappointing display at the Liberty Stadium, one in which Hepher admitted the...

Chiefs thank business sponsors

The Exeter Chiefs hosted the businesses, individuals and organisations who provide vital sponsorship for the Aviva Premiership Club.

And there was an unexpected twist when two of the players ousted from the stage head of corporate at the club, John Wood, to take over presenting duties.

Second Row Damian Welch and Back Row Kai Horstmann (pictured) hijacked proceedings after branding Mr Wood “boring”.

Damian said: “We felt it was time to make the evening a bit more interesting and give the audience a bit more of a behind the scenes insight into the changing room...

Ospreys 25, Chiefs 13

Just as he was the scourge of England during the Rugby World Cup, so Welshman Dan Biggar did the same to Exeter Chiefs on their competitive return to the Champions Cup.

The Ospreys fly-half was the mastermind behind the Welsh region’s success story, plundering five penalties, a drop-goal and even converting a late try from former Exeter player Josh Matavesi.

Even then Biggar – who was named Heineken Man of the Match – could afford to miss three further chances afforded to him by the Chiefs, who fell foul of Italian referee Marius Mitrea on far too many occasions.

Exeter Chiefs switch from domestic duties to that of Europe this weekend as they mark their first outing in the Champions Cup with an away day at Ospreys today (5:30pm).

After three successive victories in the Aviva Premiership, Rob Baxter’s side will be looking to continue their good form against the Welsh region at the Liberty Stadium.

It’s some two years since Devon’s finest last mixed it with Europe’s elite - facing the likes of Glasgow Warriors, Cardiff Blues and back-to-back winners, RC Toulon in the old Heineken Cup - and their re-introduction this year promises to...
