Dean Mumm is backing fellow Aussies Dave Dennis and Greg Holmes to make a big impact when they arrive at Exeter Chiefs in the coming weeks. Following in the stud marks of the 32-year-old, who enjoyed a stellar three-year spell at Sandy Park, the Wallabies duo are two of three new faces head coach Rob Baxter is bringing to Sandy Park ahead of the 2016/17 season. And having played alongside both of Exeter’s new recruits, the former Chiefs skipper is perfectly positioned to offer the perfect insight into what the two highly-rated forwards can bring to the Devon club. “I’ve played club rugby...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is expecting another "exciting" European Champions Cup campaign after his side were pitted against familiar foes in Pool 5 of this season's tournament. For a second successive season, the Devon club will again lock horns with French Top 14 rivals Bordeaux-Begles and ASM Clermont Auverge, as well as Pro 12 opponents Ulster Rugby following Wednesday's eagerly anticipated draw in Switzerland. Drawn as one of the five Tier One clubs, the Chiefs will be hoping to replicate their fortunes of last term when they advanced through the pool stages past Bordeaux-...

Nowell starts for England

George Ford (Bath Rugby) and Jack Nowell (Exeter Chiefs) return to the England starting 15 for the second Test match against Australia in Melbourne on Saturday, 18 June (kick-off 11am BST, live on Sky Sports 1).

Ford starts at fly-half with Owen Farrell (Saracens) moving to inside centre, while Cornishman Nowell is reinstated on the wing at the expense of Marland Yarde (Harlequins).

The pack is unchanged to the one that started the first Test against Australia in Brisbane last weekend, but on the bench Saracens hooker Jamie George, Harlequins back-row forward Jack Clifford...

Exeter Chiefs duo Jack Nowell and Luke Cowan-Dickie both came off the bench as England beat the Wallabies for only the fourth time in Australia as they triumphed 39-28 in a mighty battle in the first Test in Brisbane.

The win looked unlikely when they fell 10-0 behind early on as Michael Hooper and Israel Folau scored for the hosts, but Eddie Jones’ side hit back through the boot of Owen Farrell and tries from Jonathan Joseph and Marland Yarde.

After the break Australia – who included Greg Holmes and Dean Mumm in their ranks – rallied as Hooper and Tevita Kuridrani crossed...

Salvi says Chiefs will emerge stronger after final loss

Julian Salvi admitted the only thing missing from an “amazing” first year with the Exeter Chiefs was failing to pick up the Aviva Premiership title at Twickenham.

Brought to Devon last summer from Leicester Tigers, the Australian open-side has been a near ever-present for Rob Baxter’s side during a stellar campaign, which finished up at the home of English rugby in Saturday’s showpiece event.

Sadly, though, the Chiefs – playing in their first-ever Premiership final – could not cap what has been a year to remember for them as they went down narrowly to defending champions...

In the end it wasn’t quite to be for Exeter Chiefs, but Gareth Steenson insists the club have plenty to proud of following a quite outstanding season.

Undone 28-20 in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership final by Saracens, the dreams of a first-ever top flight title will have to wait for Rob Baxter’s side a little longer.

Trailing 23-6 at the interval, the Devonians produced a rousing second half performance to haul themselves back into contention with just five minutes remaining.

Saracens, however, showed just why they have been the stand-out force, both domestically and...

We'll learn from the experience says Baxter

Rob Baxter admits his side’s slow start cost them the game, but was also a necessary learning curve after their second-half comeback at Twickenham.

Jack Yeandle and Jack Nowell went over for the Chiefs to trim a 23-3 lead for Saracens to just three points at the close of the second half .

“Is there anything that I can say or do or could we have had anything different before hand? I don’t think so. I think that we needed that first half-hour of a final, that’s the easiest way for me to wrap that up,” Baxter said.

“We needed that and what they felt like and the...

In the end there was to be no fairytale ending for Exeter Chiefs, but boy did Rob Baxter’s side put up an unbelievable fight.

Pitted against European and defending Aviva Premiership champions Saracens, Devon’s finest picked themselves off the deck following a first half flooring to shock their rivals with a ferocious second half fightback.

In the end, the Chiefs didn’t have quite enough in the tank as their spirited challenge was finally ended late on by a try from man of the match Alex Goode.

Having trailed 23-6 at the break to first half tries from Duncan Taylor...
