Luke Cowan-Dickie led the way as Exeter Chiefs recorded their first Aviva Premiership victory of the season against visiting Harlequins.
Having suffered back-to-back defeats at the hands of Wasps and defending champions Saracens, Rob Baxter’s side rediscovered their winning formula at the third time of asking.
Cornishman Cowan-Dickie (pictured) was the main headliner grabber, claiming a hat-trick of tries and producing an outstanding display that watching England forwards coach, Neal Hatley, will have duly noted with plenty of interest.
Rob Baxter has been forced to make a late change to his Exeter Chiefs starting XV for today’s Aviva Premiership clash with Harlequins at Sandy Park (3pm).
Lock Mitch Lees has been forced to pull out of the game through illness, so it means Damian Welch (pictured) is promoted from the bench to partner Geoff Parling in the second row. Rob Baxter acknowledges the pressure is on his Exeter Chiefs side, but insists it’s the same every week in the Aviva Premiership.
After back-to-back losses against Wasps and Saracens, Baxter’s men find themselves rooted to the foot of the table with just a solitary point to their name.
Tomorrow, however, they have the chance to get their season finally up and running when they welcome Harlequins to Sandy Park (3pm).

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has confirmed Phil Dollman will be sidelined for a number of weeks after it was revealed he broke his hand in last weekend’s Aviva Premiership clash with Saracens.
The 31-year-old full-back sustained the injury during the opening quarter of the game played at Sandy Park.
“The initial prognosis is that he’s going to be out for a little while – he may well require an operation,” said Baxter. “If he does he’ll have that very shortly, and then you’re talking about a six to eight week recovery period.”
Don Armand insists he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates owe it to themselves and the club’s supporters to bounce back with a big home display against Harlequins in the Aviva Premiership this Saturday (3pm).
After two rounds of battle, Rob Baxter’s side have yet to post a league victory – having gone down to Wasps (25-20) on the opening day, and then champions Saracens (34-13) at Sandy Park on Sunday.
Back-row star Armand admits the table does not make for pretty reading, but insists there have been positives to take from both performances and he hopes another week on the...
The only way is up for Exeter Chiefs after they slipped to a second successive Aviva Premiership defeat of the season.
After two rounds of league battle, Rob Baxter’s side are still searching for their first win of the season after reigning English and Europeans champions Saracens stormed to a five-try victory at Sandy Park.
In a dominant display from the Londoners, first half tries from Alex Lozowski and Sean Maitland set the tone, before Maitland struck for a second time, alongside further scores from Jackson Wray and Ben Spencer.
Gareth Steenson says a return to home comforts can help provide the perfect lift he and his Exeter Chiefs team-mates need after losing to Wasps in their seasonal opener at Wasps at the weekend.
Rob Baxter’s side will kick-off their home campaign this Sunday with a testing engagement against reigning English and European champions Saracens at Sandy Park (3pm).
With just one defeat on home soil in 20 months – that incidentally against Saracens last February – Steenson admits delivering on home turf is a key incentive.
“It’s a good test to put things right,” said the...
