Distraction burglaries in East Devon

Detectives are urging the public to be vigilant following a spate of distraction burglaries in Sidmouth and Beer yesterday afternoon [Monday 24 July].

The first incident happened at Sweet Temptations on Market Place, Sidmouth, between 11.50pm and 12pm.

A man entered the shop asking if a parcel had been left for him. The assistant has left the till area to look out the back for the parcel only to return moments later to find that around £40 cash was missing from the till. [CR/061279/17 refers].

A total of 35 worthy community schemes have had Parishes Together Fund applications approved by the decision making panel of East Devon District councillors between April 2016 and March 2017. The same funding is available again now.

New public spaces protection orders introduced in Exmouth and Sidmouth

East Devon District Council has recently introduced a second group of public spaces protection orders (PSPOs) which are local measures used to control a range of unacceptable activities.

This new order, made on June 6 2017, relates to possession of intoxicating substances (including alcohol), urination and defecation (in public), aggressive begging, and behaving in a way likely to cause harassment or intimidation. The order applies in a large area in the centre of Exmouth. The alcohol provisions only also apply to a smaller area of Sidmouth.

Award-winning authors and broadcasters headline Budleigh’s 9th annual Literary Festival

The line-up of best-selling authors and budding literary stars for the annual Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival has been announced.

Motorists urged to be vigilant after spate of vehicle crimes in East Devon

Honda Accords were targeted over the weekend, as car parts were removed and almost £5,000 worth of tools were stolen from two vans.

Between 5.30pm on Sunday 18 June and 8am on Monday 19 June an exhaust and a catalytic converter was cut off a blue Honda Accord that was parked in the Fraser Road area of Exmouth. Another catalytic converter was stolen with another having been removed from a bronze Honda Accord in the Moormead area of Budleigh Salterton during a similar time-frame.

EDDC Education Rangers prepare for busiest summer yet

2017 is set to be the busiest summer season yet for East Devon's two Education Rangers, with more than 60 groups already booked for a day’s outdoor learning experience, enjoying East Devon’s outstanding environment.

Alongside working with school groups, the rangers will also be working with cubs, scout, brownie and rainbow groups and running events such as Fun in the Stream, night walks, bug hunts and rockpooling for local families and visitors.

With just days to go before the start of East Devon District Council’s new improved recycling service which begins on Monday June 12, residents are being reminded to refer carefully to the information they have been sent to ensure they are aware of their collection days, what they can recycle and how to separate the items between their box and new sack.

Countdown begins to start of new recycling and waste service in East Devon

More than 50,000 households in East Devon are just a few weeks away from being able to recycle more items than ever before when a new improved weekly recycling collection is introduced district-wide by the council from Monday June 12.

Countryside team marks Hedgehog Awareness Week

Sunday 30 April to Saturday 6 May marks Hedgehog Awareness Week, a week organised by the British Hedgehog Preservation Society which aims to raise the profile of hedgehogs.

Hedgehog numbers are in decline due to a reduction in the area of suitable habitat and food sources. The East Devon District Council Countryside team have been working with local people to help encourage more wildlife into gardens and nature reserves in East Devon.
