East Devon council consider relocation

East Devon District Council is considering relocating its headquarters to Skypark.

The decision, taken by cabinet on 5 February, will now be put forward as the preferred location to full council on 26 February. If approved, officers will be asked to carry out further research into the viability of the move. Marketing of Knowle would start promptly.

This is an important step forward and a further report would then be brought back to cabinet and full council before a final decision is made in the summer.

Reprieve for closure-threatened school

Closure-threatened Musbury Primary School has been given a new lease of life.

The school is to federate with Sidmouth Primary School whose executive head, Paul Walker, has been helping to run Musbury for the past term.

The future of the school has been in doubt since pupil numbers dropped to single figures.

The previous head left the school six months ago and it began a management partnership with Sidmouth.

Now that will be formalised in the new Two Valleys Federation which will come into operation after half-term.

The newly-formed East Devon Countryside Volunteers (EDCV) are having a positive impact on their local environment AND improving conditions for wildlife and nature lovers into the bargain!

Councils face fresh austerity cuts

Local councils will see their budgets reduced even further in the latest round of austerity cuts.

Eric Pickles, Local Government secretary announced that most local authorities could see their spending power reduced by nearly 3%.

The reduction in spending power- calculated to include council tax and Westminster grants- is estimated to total more than £1.7bn across all UK local authorities.

East Devon District Council has announced a further Christmas parking concession to help town centre businesses in the final few days of the run-up to Christmas.

With effect from Wednesday 18 December and up to Christmas Day, there will be daily repeats of the successful ‘Small Business Saturday’ offer that applied on Saturday 7 December 2013. This means motorists can park all day (from 10am) for a maximum daily charge of just £2.

Six new Stagecoach buses to serve East Devon route

Stagecoach South West announced today that customers travelling on routes 56 (Exeter – Exeter Airport – Woodbury – Exmouth) and 157 (Exmouth – Budleigh Salterton – Newton Poppleford – Sidmouth) are receiving an early Christmas present – six brand new buses!

Help shape how the Jurassic coast is looked after

The Jurassic Coast Partnership would like to hear from local people about their views on how the World Heritage Site, which extends 95 miles from Exmouth to Studland, should be looked after.

The site is managed through a partnership which includes Dorset County Council and Devon County Councils. A management plan sets out details of how the site is looked after and what activities have been agreed.

The plan is reviewed every five years to keep it up to date and relevant. The opinions of local people are being sought on the new draft plan.
