An innovative Devon company is set to expand and create new jobs in the county after receiving significant commercial investment to scale-up its pioneering EV battery recycling technology.

New drive to create bespoke community libraries

A major drive to establish a wide network of community libraries in Devon's rural areas is to be launched by the county council.

The community libraries will be developed as an alternative to the current mobile library service which is faced with falling numbers of users and rising costs.

Members of Devon's Cabinet today agreed to decommission the ageing mobile library vehicles and set aside cash to help community groups and parish councils set up new community libraries.

Exeter charity celebrates a successful year of holiday activiites

Exeter Charity, The Hollow Lane Club is celebrating the success of its holiday clubs this year including its well-loved Summer Club which ran for 12 days across July and August, helping 63 children from 57 different families.

The local charity supports children and young people with complex disabilities, providing year-round clubs and activities helping children socialise with the support of the club’s playworkers.

The Exeter Dementia Action Alliance (EDAA) are delighted to have joined forces with Training2Care and their Dementia Interpreters partnership programme.

Launching in Exeter next year will see the alliance offering three hour immersive interactive sessions around communication and the language of Dementia.

Active Streets trial zone traffic figures welcomed

Supporters of a controversial traffic scheme in Exeter which sparked angry protests have welcomed figures which show traffic levels plummeting in the streets it covers.

The Active Streets experiment in Heavitree and Wonford is designed to take through-traffic away from residential streets to cut pollution and improve road safety.

Bus gates and bollards restrict driving through the so-called Low Traffic Neighbourhood, but opponents say it is driving traffic and pollution elsewhere and making journey times longer....

Devon company’s mattress donation helps Exeter charity create sweet dreams!

As part of their commitment to help alleviate bed poverty, Devon-based bed and mattress company, Naturalmat, has donated two new mattresses to local charity, Exeter Community Initiatives (ECI).

The brand-new mattresses have been distributed to a teenage boy and a mum recovering from surgery - both of whom are receiving support from ECI’s Family Resource project.
