Following the Easter Saturday season fixture, Newton Abbot Racecourse has confirmed another record year of committed prize money for 2017.

Over the course of the 2017 season, over £1million in prize money will be spread across the 18 fixtures which will take place between April and October.

This year, the minimum amount of prize money on offer will be: £6,000 for all Class 5 hurdles, £6,750 for all Class 5 chases, £7,250 for all Class 4 hurdles and £7,500 for all Class 4 chases.

Six gardens near Kingsteignton will be opening their gates to members of the public, to raise vital funds for Rowcroft Hospice in June. The ‘Orchard Open Gardens’ event will take place on 18 June from 12 noon to 5pm. Entry will be £5 per person, with free entry for children. The year long Heritage Lottery Fund supported History of St James Park project came to an end with a packed film premiere at Exeter City’s stadium on 27 April.

The 51 minute movie documents each of the decades since football was first played on the ground in 1894. Contributors include historians, club officials, former players, fans and first team manager Paul Tisdale.

The spring flowers in Moretonhampstead gardens Sutton Mead and Mardon must have loved the driest winter for decades.

The colours of the apple blossom, wisteria, rhododendrons and azaleas have never looked better. Both of these four acre gardens will be open in aid of The National Garden Scheme on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 19, 20, 21 May. 2-6pm.

There will be a sale of plants raised in the gardens and delicious homemade teas. Parking is available at both gardens and for anyone wishing to combine their visit with a walk on the moor, dogs on leads are welcome.

Following four years of fundraising, planning and renovation, local charity Rainbow Living has officially celebrated completion of their third Rainbow House by opening the house up for a special preview.

Supporters turned out in force as the charity’s Trustees and Board greeted over 200 guests during the 2-day event.
