Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW), which runs Little Harbour children’s hospice in St Austell, has been celebrating the work of its dedicated community volunteers while searching for more to join.
A few weeks ago the hospice ran its annual Friends Group Conference. This event gave various members of Little Harbour’s fundraising team and care team the opportunity to thank community volunteers from Cornwall, Plymouth and the surrounding areas for their hard work. They were also updated on the focusses of the charity for the next year.
Running events in Exeter are going green, with plastic water bottles used by the competitors in the upcoming Exeter Live Better Marathon set to be gathered up, recycled and turned into new water bottles.
The environmental commitment has been forged by event organisers Exeter City Community Trust (ECCT) and recycling experts Exeter City Council.
Runners in the Exeter Live Better Marathon and half marathon event on 19 May will be able to rehydrate and then recycle their bottles in special containers further down the route.

Tim is undertaking the challenge in tribute to a loving young man, who had to overcome many health conditions in his short life.

RD&E helipad will be upgraded to enable more patient landings
Work to upgrade the current helipad at the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Foundation Trust will begin this month, thanks to a £1 million donation from the County Air Ambulance HELP Appeal.
The donation has covered the cost of the redevelopment and will allow the introduction of night landings at the hospital. At the moment, the helipad does not have the capacity to support night landings, meaning that its day light operation is limited, especially throughout the winter months. The upgraded helipad will also be...

The shelter – dubbed The Junction – is set to wind down at the end of the month as the weather improves and temperatures go up.
Since opening up its doors in November, the facility has provided a total of 3,239 bed nights and given shelter, allowing those sleeping rough to come inside on some of the coldest nights over the winter, when the City Council has enacted its Severe Weather Protocol (SWEP).
