Exeter experts awarded prestigious Institute of Physics medals

Two physicists from the University of Exeter have received prestigious national awards in recognition of their long-standing, pioneering research.

Professor Bill Barnes and Professor Gilles Chabrier have received notable prizes from the Institute of Physics, announced today.

Professor Barnes has been named as the 2019 winner of the Thomas Young Medal, while Professor Chabrier has been awarded the Fred Hoyle Medal.

Crealy’s breath-taking Hydro High Dive show is returning to the popular family theme park and resort this summer.

Back by popular demand, the brand new fireman-themed show features aerial stunts and dives from a team of professional, international divers.

Divers in this year’s show will be fighting fires and trying to help a frantic woman rescue her stranded baby, whilst performing hair-raising stunts into a small pool less than three metres deep.

East Devon District Council to progress plans for zero carbon growth

On 10 July at East Devon District Council’s Cabinet meeting, Councillors will consider how clean growth can be achieved in the west end of the district.

Cabinet will meet [LINK] to consider a long-standing plan to achieve zero carbon development in Cranbrook and the surrounding area, including the Exeter and East Devon Enterprise Zone.

The strategy for zero carbon growth has been in place since plans for Cranbrook were first agreed with a district heating network. Now future plans must be considered as a major milestone of 2000 homes in Cranbrook is reached.

The Stagecoach South West Exeter plus boundary will be extended to include Newton Poppleford, Sidmouth and Sidford for a four week trial period during the summer.

Updates to the Exeter lus boundary will be trailed from 14th July to 11th August, enabling customers living in rural towns and villages to travel further for less.

The charity behind the region’s three top zoos has launched a new website with a new look and a radical new approach. Wild Planet Trust is the new name for the charity that runs Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts in Torquay and Newquay Zoo in Cornwall.

There are baby red ruffed lemurs at Paignton Zoo – and just look at them!

The charity zoo is a professional science and conservation body working internationally to help save these Critically Endangered primates – but sometimes all the serious stuff is pushed to one side by incredibly cute baby animals.
