United Nations first for East Devon charity

The Donkey Sanctuary based in Sidmouth is the first equine charity in the world to be accepted into the United Nations’ Mountain Partnership. The Devon based charity will now work with international governments, NGOs and private sectors for the common good of improving the lives of mountain people and protecting mountain environments globally.

Membership of the Mountain Partnership, which is part of the UN’s Food and Agriculture organisation (FAO), will be relevant to The Donkey Sanctuary’s international work to improve the welfare of working equines in mountain areas worldwide....

South West tech heroes to be celebrated

Tech champions, heroes and innovators will be recognised at the annual Tech South West Awards which launched on Friday May 1.

The awards will feature a new Hero Award to recognise the contributions by people and organisations across the region’s tech community to aiding the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, from data-tracking work to switching to making PPE for key workers.

Covid-19 telephone support line for people on probation

The organisation that supervises low and medium risk offenders in Dorset, Devon and Cornwall launched this week a new telephone helpline for people on probation worried about the impact of coronavirus (Covid-19) on areas of their life such as finances, housing and mental health.

KSS CRC set up the advice line for the 4,200 people it supervises in the region to signpost them to services quickly as their circumstances change as a result of the pandemic. NSPCC launches UK-wide campaign to help children exposed to harm under the lockdown

With growing concern for the safety of some children during the coronavirus crisis the NSPCC wants more people to know how to get advice and support and where to raise concerns about a child’s wellbeing.

The charity is launching a new TV and advertising campaign today (May 4) across the UK to promote its free and confidential helpline for adults.

Devon brain injury charity provides lifeline for vulnerable adults

A Devon-based charity is providing a lifeline for vulnerable adults with a brain injury during the covid-19 pandemic through remote support.

Some of the community’s most isolated members were left with nowhere to turn as lockdown commenced and they were cut off from their family, friends and the outside world.

2020 Dartmoor Folk Festival postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic

ORGANISERS of the annual Dartmoor Folk Festival have announced that this year's event, which was due to take place over three days at South Zeal in August, has been postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
