A church in Exeter has developed an exciting partnership to help distribute food to people in need across the area at this time.

Rediscover Church in Northernhay Street, Exeter, is working with FareShare which has an operation in Bristol, and is a charity which works with supermarkets across the region to help provide food to people who might have difficulties accessing it and those with financial difficulties at this time.

The team at Rediscover Church have been transporting food to Devon, which in turn has been packaged into hampers and delivered to a range of people...

A triathlon coach from Teignmouth has received vital funding from the Swimathon Foundation.

Pete Wilby, founder of PeteWilbyTriathlOn, a triathlon and open water swimming coaching service, applied for the grant as part of Swimathon Foundation’s Covid-19 Relief Fund, announced last month, to fill the void left upon the suspension of coaching and access to open water.

These are among the questions addressed by a tool that calculates the scale and extent of household plastic use, developed by the University of Exeter Business School’s plastics research hub.

First steps to replace old bridge on Exeter Quayside taking place

The first steps to replace an old bridge on Exeter Quayside that had come to the end of its life have taken place this week.

The wooden Mallison Bridge, which spans the medieval leats on the north bank of the River Exe, has been removed as its timbers had become rotten and unsafe to use.

Planning permission for a new pedestrian and cycle bridge was given in December 2018 and a new structure will be built as soon as adequate funding has been identified.

Plans underway for next week’s city centre reopening

Preparations are well underway to help ensure Exeter city centre is safe and welcoming when many stores reopen their doors next week.

On Monday 15 June non-essential retailers will be allowed to reopen for the first time since the end of March, once they have completed a risk assessment. Hospitality businesses like cafes and restaurants can reopen from 4 July.

Temporary and permanent measures and changes are required to ensure the city centre remains a vibrant place to live, work, socialise, visit, shop and work.

Loganair set to fly from Exeter for first time

Loganair today announced that it will fly from Exeter Airport for the first time from the start of July.

Included are routes from Exeter to Edinburgh commencing on July 6, and to Newcastle starting on July 20. A one-stop service to Aberdeen via Newcastle also starts on that date.

At a recent meeting (at a safe distance) the Devonshire Freemasons donated £1000 to the Devon Freewheelers also known as the Devon Blood Bikes to enable them to continue the important work they are doing in transporting Covid 19 samples from test centres and hospitals to laboratories in addition to their other important duties.

Families in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay can benefit from free online parenting courses that are being launched today (8 June 2020) at the start of Infant Mental Health Awareness Week.
