Advice to take care on Devon's roads as colder temperatures set to follow rain

More widespread rainfall today is forecast to be followed by falling temperatures overnight, prompting further warnings of possible travel disruption across the county’s road network.

The Met Office’s latest Yellow Weather Warning for rain started at midday today (Thursday 4 January) and continues until 3am tomorrow morning.

Although the amount of rainfall is expected to be less than during recent storms, as the ground is already saturated it could cause further flooding and surface water issues.

The head of NHS England, Amanda Pritchard, has been awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Exeter for her efforts in improving health and ensuring high quality of care for all in England.

Small amounts of DIY waste to be accepted free of charge at Household Waste Recycling Centres from the New Year

Households will be able to dispose of small amounts of DIY waste for free at Devon's Household Waste Recycling Centres, from Sunday 31 December. Up to now, the legal definition of household waste has not included materials from the repair or improvement of houses, for example, home improvement types of waste, so councils have had no obligation to accept such waste free of charge. Councils have used the revenue to invest back in to keep waste services running. Police in Exeter thank the public in the run up to Christmas

Police officers in Exeter have thanked the public for their support in the run up to the festive period.

The busy Christmas market, which ran for a month in the Cathedral Green area, attracts bumper crowds of visitors and the local Neighbourhood Police Team have been kept busy ensuring the safety of the public in the city.

The Devon Air Ambulance (DAA) Christmas Appeal is well underway, receiving a fantastic response so far.

Over £50,000 has been donated since the appeal launched in November to ensure that DAA’s crews remain fully stocked with everything they need for the winter months ahead.

For each of the incident's crews respond to, clinicians quickly work through the contents of their lifesaving critical care kits, which are stocked with essential medical supplies and equipment.

The run-up to Christmas has been busy for local health and wellbeing charity Westbank Community Health and Care, with a full calendar of events for members of its community and its team.

The festive celebrations got off to a heartwarming start when Year 2 children from Exeter Pre-Prep School visited Westbank’s Day Centre at Exminster to sing a melody of Christmas songs for regular clients.

Stagecoach announced today (December 19) that it is extending its offer of a maximum fare of just £2 for a single bus journey in England.
