Police appeal after cyclist found dead

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after a man died in Axminster on Monday 22 September.

At 10.30am a male cyclist was found dead next to his bike in Castle Hill, Axminster.

The cyclist was has not been named but is thought to be a 77 year-old man local to the area.

The circumstances of his death are not believed to be suspicious but police are appealing for witnesses.

An ambulance was called and the road was closed while investigations took place at the scene.

Exeter cyclo-cross event for young cyclists

Young cyclists have the opportunity to take part in a Go Ride Racing cyclo-cross event for beginners on Saturday (27 September).

The event at Mincinglake Valley Park in Exeter is an opportunity for young people aged from seven to 16 years old to get their first taste of one of the nation’s fastest growing cycling disciplines, cyclo-cross.

Chief Constable to face public questions

Police and Crime Commissioner Tony Hogg will relay public questions to the Chief Constable at a ‘new look’ performance and accountability meeting this week. It will take place on Wednesday (24 September) at Devon County Council headquarters in Exeter (2pm). The meeting is open to the public and will be webcast live on the internet. Pop up restaurant a roaring success

Customers of Exeter's The Real Food Store and Pickle Shack pop-up restaurant regulars were indulged with three courses of local fare following the successful collaboration of the two businesses.

The Real Food Store is a community owned store and cafe consisting of over 300 members, staff and board members.

Devonshire Motors has welcomed back former Workshop Controller Phil Wells as its new After Sales Manager.

The 33-year-old originally started in the Barnstaple-based Mitsubishi dealership in 2010. For family reasons, he moved to a BMW dealership 18 months ago but was wooed back earlier this month by Devonshire’s Dealer Principal, Nathan Tomlinson.

As After Sales Manager, Phil is responsible for what is arguably one of the busiest and most after sales-focused dealerships in the Mitsubishi network.

Walkers head to the coast for special event

Walkers are digging out their boots this week with the start of the South West Coast Path Association's 2014 charity event, the Great South West Walks, on Saturday 20 September. Taking place between 20 and 28 September, the event comprises 100 circular walks covering all levels of difficulty and length, with many including themes - each led by an expert guide. There are walks across Dorset, Devon, Cornwall and Somerset sections of the path. There are still places available on the walks, so anyone interested is encouraged to sign up now - and with many ‘family friendly' walks available...

Date for 2015 Dawlish Air Show

Dawlish Air Show committee has announced that next year’s Dawlish Air Show will take place on Saturday 22 August.

The decision has been taken to move the airshow away from the Bank Holiday weekend in 2015 for a number of reasons, one being that weekend occurs very late next year (the Bank Holiday is Monday 31 August) and it is also the weekend over which Dartmouth Regatta has been scheduled.

Storms cause flooding and travel disruption

Heavy rain and thunderstorms caused flooding and travel disruption across Exeter and East Devon this morning.

In Honiton a lightning strike caused a fire at a property in Stout. Two fire engines from Honiton and one from Sidmouth attended just before 8am.

Two hose reel jets and four breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. The cause of the fire was a lightning strike on the property.

In Dawlish fire control received around six calls to reports of flooding inside properties due to heavy rainfall.
