Police appeal after 87-year-old suffers life-threatening injuries in Exeter collision

An 87-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being in collision with a lorry in Exeter yesterday (19 January).

Police and emergency services were called to Topsham Road around 1.15pm after the elderly pedestrian was in collision with the HGV.

The woman, from Exeter, sustained a serious leg injury and was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital.

The driver of the 18-tonne truck, a 43-year-old man, was interviewed by police and has been released while police enquiries continue into the circumstances of the incident.

Exeter golf course to be redesigned

Exeter Golf and Country Club has secured funding from Charles Church, part of the Persimmon Group, towards the redesign of its golf course. The deal comes after two years of negotiations between the Club and housebuilder over how to ensure the safety of residents of Great Woodcote Park, a new housing development being built next to the golf course. Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are encouraging you to ‘Register my appliance’ so your home is safer.

Did you know that only 36% of consumers register all of their large domestic appliances? This leaves thousands off the radar if a recall is required.

New research reveals just over a third of British purchasers currently register all of their appliances with the manufacturer, leaving many thousands of owners virtually untraceable if a safety repair is required.

Topsham Road in Exeter has been closed following a serious collision involving a pedestrian and a lorry.

Emergency sevices were called to the scene of the collision at around 1pm today.

The road has been closed between Countess Wear Roundabout and Burnthouse Lane.

Police have set up diversions at Barrack Road and Countess Wear, and buses are being diverted.

A public exhibition will be held by Devon County Council on proposals to introduce traffic calming measures on Blundell’s Road in Tiverton. With housing and employment development planned to the east of Tiverton, improvements are needed on the local road infrastructure. Four Devon primary schools, including one in Exeter, have been chosen to take part in a national initiative aimed at developing global education.

Redhills primary and pre-school in Exeter, Lady Modiford’s in Walkhampton and Meavy and Offwell schools have been selected to develop international links with Tanzania as part of a major new school twinning project.
