Wildfires warning as warm weather arrives

With sunny weather predicted for this week many people will be encouraged to be outside, whether this is a causal stroll in the countryside or hiking across Dartmoor.

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service remind walkers and campers to be mindful of the impact and damage that a gorse fire has on the environment.

Schools urged to donate books to Africa

Schools in the South West are being invited to donate books to schools in rural parts of South Africa, as part of a competition to learn about farming in the country.

The 2015 Help a South African School competition asks children in years one through to 11 to learn about fruit farming and the difference it makes to the lives of families in South Africa, and to produce a collage of their learnings.

Pond ‘rescue’ at Holyford Woods

Over the winter months the East Devon District Council’s Countryside team has been working hard to complete the first phase of work to restore the large pond found at the centre of Holyford Woods Local Nature Reserve.

Police are appealing for the public’s help in locating Gary Knight aged 52 from Dawlish, who has gone missing

Gary has not been seen since leaving the Haldon Terrace area of Dawlish at around 11.30am yesterday (Sunday 12th April), and is believed to be wearing jeans and a t-shirt or light jumper and normally carries a black rucksack.

Gary is described as of stocky build with a beard and wears glasses. Police have concerns for his welfare.

Campaign warns of cold water shock

Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service is joining with fire and rescue services across the UK in supporting the Chief Fire Officers Association’s Drowning Prevention and Water Safety Week 2015, taking place from 13-19 April.
