The Government is proposing that from next April many local authorities and businesses in the UK will see major tax or business rate increases on rooftop solar installations.

Devon County Council's Cabinet Member responsible for environmental matters, Cllr Roger Croad, says that such a decision would be a backward step for sustainable energy, and that it would deter organisations from installing the technology.

As the UK Government works out what the nation's future relationship with the European Union will look like, some Devon farmers are concerned that Brexit will lead to challenges for an industry already feeling the strain.

While some in the agricultural industry feel that leaving the EU will create opportunities, others are concerned that breaking the ties could place yet further pressures on the industry with a potential loss of subsidises and uncertainty over new trade agreements.

And these on top of a list of challenges that farmers everywhere are facing, and which have...

New primary school to be built in Exeter

Devon County Council has issued a compulsory purchase order to enable work to start on a new primary school in Exeter.

The Trinity Church of England primary school is designed to serve the growing community at Newcourt off Topsham Road.

Now – following protracted negotiations and a new planning application – agreement has...
