Dance performance depicts link between rocks and the body

A special performance by a dancer at the University of Exeter’s picturesque campus is one of the events on offer as part of a project examining the links between the human body and the geological world.

The free and public exhibition also includes video installations and pictures by British and overseas artists depicting ways in which the human body encounters and connects with rock. The exhibition is designed to raise questions about people’s place in the world and their responsibility towards the environment.

Exeter students to perform on West End stage

Students from the full time BTEC Dance course at Exeter College have been selected by Rambert Dance Company to perform at a national showcase at The Peacock Theatre in London’s West End.

The showcase will be held on Tuesday 28 June and is the final event of Rambert Elements, a nationwide choreography challenge for schools and colleges that has been taking place throughout the 2015/16 academic year.

Exeter apprentice runs the show at dance studio

Apprentice Lily Woodworth has won the ‘Apprentice of the Month’ award from local apprenticeship provider Skills Group. Lily started as an apprentice with Exeter-based DanSci Dance Studio and has recently been promoted to Studio Manager, while simultaneously showing outstanding commitment to her apprenticeship. Lily, 20 and from Heavitree, is currently undertaking an apprenticeship in Customer Services with DanSci, having previously studied A Levels at college before realising full-time education no longer suited her. On Sunday 17th April, juniors from DanSci Dance Studio took to the stage to compete against some of the top Dance Crews in the South West.

The DanSci Street Stars crew made up of five students from the studio aged eight and nine years old performed a 2 minute piece which included all aspects of street dance from locking and popping, and house, to hip hop, breaking and tutting!
