A community fun day will be held in Cranbrook on Saturday 11 March.

Devon County Council, Action East Devon and Cranbrook Town Council are planning the event to inspire as many people as possible to walk, cycle or take the bus or train to travel to work or school. Wildlife gardening at Cranbrook this weekend

Cranbrook Country Park is hosting a wildlife gardening session this Saturday morning, February 25.

The session will take place between 10am and 12pm; families are invited to take part in building homes for the wildlife in the area.

Children will have the opportunity to create bird feeders for their own gardens and build a safe environment for bees using a baked bean tin and bamboo.

There will also be the chance to help build a bug hotel which is made from leftover materials.

Cranbrook Country Park has already carried out three sessions so far this year....

‘Mood boosting’ books for Cranbrook Education Campus

Pupils at Cranbrook Education Campus are relishing new books for their library, provided through Cranbrook’s Healthy Town scheme which is funded by NHS England’s Healthy New Town programme.

The thirty seven new arrivals for secondary school aged children, valued around £240, cover the Reading Well Mood-Boosting Book lists chosen by and for young people. The Reading Well Mood-Boosting Books scheme, run by the Reading Agency, is described as a national promotion of uplifting titles, including novels, poetry and non-fiction.

New Cranbrook trail officially opened

A new walking and cycling trail in Cranbrook has been officially opened.

The “Cranbrook Discovery Trail: Long Orchard” has been developed by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage residents to explore their local area.

As a designated “Healthy Town” it also provides local adults and children in Cranbrook with an opportunity to stay active.

Cash boost for new Cranbrook Scout group

A newly-formed Scout group in Cranbrook has been handed a £1,000 boost towards a storage container.

Persimmon Homes South West has made the donation to 1st Cranbrook Scout Group. The group was formed to serve the new Devon town and already has a Beaver colony, a Cub pack and a Scout troop. The group currently rents its meeting venues from the local community and council but has nowhere to store activity or camping equipment. Leaders are raising funds for a small shipping container. Walking and cycling trail to launch in Cranbrook

A walking and cycling trail is being launched in Cranbrook next month (January) to help local residents explore the area.

The “Discover Cranbrook: The Long Orchard Trail” is being established by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, Cranbrook Town Council and Cranbrook New Community Partners Consortium to encourage people to get active and find out what’s on their doorstep.

Starting at the entrance of the Country Park at Long Orchard, the trail includes five posts which feature different rubbings – four around the park and a fifth at Cranbrook Train Station....

Co-cars 'hire by the hour' Car Club launches in Cranbrook

Co-cars, the South West's fast-growing hire by the hour car club, officially launched its first car in Cranbrook today, Friday 4th November 2016 outside the Youunghayes Centre.

Co-cars offers its cars for hire to members, by the hour, with pick-up and return to the specially reserved bays. Members can book 24/7 online or via a smartphone and use a smartcard and PIN to open the car.

The Cranbrook car has been funded jointly by the Cranbrook consortium of developers, Devon County Council and Co-cars.

Local Government Chronicle (LGC) has announced that East Devon’s new town of Cranbrook has been shortlisted in the ‘Housing Initiative’ category of their prestigious 2017 LGC Awards .
