Exeter Craft Festival returns

Exeter's beautiful and historic Cathedral Green is the setting for the Exeter Craft Festival on 6–8 July 2017.

Stands set in individual marquees showcase the wonderful original work of over 100 talented craftsmen and artists who are based in the South West.

This three-day event is in its 42nd year, attracts thousands of visitors and, as usual, exhibitors have been screened and selected for the quality of their work.

There is a wide variety to be enjoyed.

Local artisans and talented crafts people are coming together to exhibit at the Devon County Show on May 18, 19 and 20 held at Westpoint, Exeter.

A collection of soap makers, leather workers, jewellers, artists, candle makers and many others will be setting up shop in a canvas marquee which would easily cover a premier league football pitch.

The Crafts and Gardens feature is nearly 12,000 square metres and will highlight the popularity of hand-made items, often using centuries-old techniques.

Exhibition: Off the Surface - the art of hand-embroidery

A collaborative exhibition showcasing the art of hand embroidery, old and new. Degree students from The Royal School of Needlework have produced contemporary, hand-embroidered work inspired by treasured textiles from world renowned archives at Hampton Court Palace.

The exhibition features surface designs such as appliquéd garments, wearable sculpture, 3-D stitched drapes and hangings alongside historic purses, collars and lacework - offering a rare opportunity to see the past revived in a contemporary fashion. Main Gallery. Free entry, open daily 10am-5.30pm

Music at the Mill features 30 bands/performers on 3 stages over 2 days at Lapford Mill in Mid Devon. Friday night showcases young local talent and is free of charge. Headline acts on the main stage (Saturday) include Tankus the Henge and Lionstar both having played Glastonbury. Plenty of stalls and activities including ukulele and didgeridoo sessions, children's drum workshop, storytelling, yoga and jewellery making. Local real ale, cider and food stalls. From willow stars and garlands to beautiful Christmas wreaths – East Devon District Council’s Countryside team is laying on a series of festive craft making events next month just in time for Christmas.

Windrush Willow will be running a Willow Christmas decorations workshop in the Reed Base at Seaton Wetlands on Saturday 3 December from 10am to 1pm with an expert on hand to teach how to make garlands, wreaths and stars. The sessions are open to everyone.
