You’ll be keeping your feet firmly on level ground as the Extreme Team take to the air to battle it out!

A World First on Exeter’s Canal Basin this August Bank Holiday

The UK’s only climbing wall on water returns to Exeter this August for the second Deep Water Solo Exeter competition which takes place on Exeter’s canal basin from Friday 28th to Sunday 30th August.

The event attracts climbers from across the UK including top athletes such as Steve McClure, Neil Gresham, Emma Twyford and GB para climber Dave Bowes. After noticing that there was a lack of events such as the Superhuman Games in the South West, Grant Hardwell and Paul Goff, the owners of GoHARD events, decided to bring a new sporting challenge to Devon. “We’re all about trying to be as original as possible, where we can use the terrain of the beautiful Devon countryside as the obstacle. We design our events to be challenging, but doable by the majority of people. If you can run, climb, carry and crawl – then this event is for you”.

The GoHARD Obstacle Run Series is a 3km and 6km run incorporating various obstacles, including a camouflage net crawl, a Bulgarian bag carry, log lunge, farmers walk, balance beam and ‘over and under’ hurdles. Failure to cross the balance beam will see competitors tasting dirt as they are then made to execute 5 solid burpees. The ‘over and under’ hurdles include a series of solid 6ft walls, intermixed with low beams requiring good upper body strength and agility. The course is suited for all abilities and the entry cost of £22 includes an event vest, with spot prizes for the event winners...

Frame Your Train competition returns

First Great Western (FGW) has announced the return of the award-winning Frame Your Train competition – running throughout August.

It calls on passengers travelling on First Great Western trains to reach for their smartphone, snap a view from the window, and upload the image to Instagram using the hashtag #FGWFrameYourTrain. All entries are then uploaded to an interactive map, and showcased in an online photo gallery. It couldn’t be easier for all budding photographers out there to get involved!

To celebrate the launch of Princesshay’s Grand Dine Out competition to win £1,000, visitors to the centre are invited to a summer garden party on Friday 31st July in Princesshay Square from 11am – 2pm.

Live music from buskers and family fun with outdoor games including Connect 4 and Jenga will create a garden party feel.

Visitors are invited to sit back on deck chairs and enjoy the atmosphere and sample a selection of menus from some of Princesshay’s favourite restaurants.

VIP wanted to launch Exeter Monopoly board

It has been described as Britain’s poshest city – too upmarket to have an Old Kent Road equivalent - so now Monopoly makers are offering one Exeter person the chance to be treated “all posh” for a day.

The official Monopoly board for Exeter will be launched at a city ceremony on Wednesday 7 October, and as part of the celebrations the board’s makers are on the lookout for a ‘VIP’ to launch the board.... Very Important Posh-person that is!

Exeter pupil wins national competition

An Exeter School pupil got curious about Copper and won a national competition.

Middle Fifth pupil Mollie Tettenborn entered the Copper Education Competition, entitled Curious About Copper, and took first prize.

Fifteen-year-old Mollie designed a poster for the Electronics and Communication category which the judges felt was extremely well designed and presented.

They stated that the detailed scientific information on this poster showed a good understanding of the chemistry of copper. The poster also looked at interesting and contained relevant current and future...

Competition to find RWC flag bearers launches in Exeter

Emirates, a global connector of people, places and passions, and its ambassador for rugby, Ben Foden, has today launched a flag hunt in Exeter to find the Official Flag Bearers for the tournament.

Emirates and Ben Foden will be hiding a flag in Exeter tomorrow and sharing clues on social media for fans to follow. Open to 14-16 year olds, the competition will give the local rugby stars of tomorrow the chance to win the once-in-a-lifetime experience of leading a team out of the tunnel at one of the Rugby World Cup 2015 matches being held at Sandy Park, Exeter.
