Steenson praises power of the pack

Gareth Steenson may be Exeter’s master marksman, but the Chiefs fly-half was quick to praise the efforts of his forwards after they helped the Devon club return to winning ways on Sunday.

After successive defeats in the Aviva Premiership, Rob Baxter’s side rediscovered their winning habit at the Madejski Stadium as they won 22-15 against lowly London Irish.

Steenson’s 17-point haul, plus a second half try from Dave Lewis, sealed win number nine of the season for the Chiefs who remain second in the table, just four points adrift of leaders Saracens after 13 rounds of the...

Rob Hunter has warned Exeter Chiefs to be wary of a potential backlash from London Irish when the two meet in the Aviva Premiership on Sunday (3pm).

Forwards coach Hunter is well aware the lowly Exiles will be hurting following last weekend’s 35-7 defeat at Northampton Saints and he believes they will be searching for an immediate response of sorts at the Madejski Stadium.

Bottom of the pile and with just three league victories to their name this term, Irish know they must make the most of home advantage and look to replicate their achievements of last season when a last-...

Baxter delighted to welcome Turner on board

Exeter head coach Rob Baxter has today spoken of his delight at bolstering his Chiefs squad with the signing of Australian international Lachlan Turner.

The 28-year-old has agreed a two-and-a-half year deal with the Aviva Premiership club and arrives at Sandy Park having previously played for Aussie Super Rugby sides NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds, as well as French Top 14 giants RC Toulon.

Turner’s arrival in Devon provides a perfect boost for the Chiefs, who are sitting second in the Premiership table and who have also qualified for the quarter-finals of the European...

Exeter Chiefs newcomer Lachlan Turner says he's more than happy to be thrown in at the deep end after he today sealed a move to the Aviva Premiership club.

The Australian international touched down at Sandy Park this morning to begin a two-and-a-half year deal with Rob Baxter's high-flying outfit.

Having played predominantly back home in Australia with Super Rugby sides the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds, the 28-year-old back last year spent time in the Top 14 with RC Toulon as World Cup cover.

Now, Turner - who has won 15 international caps for the Wallabies - is...

Cowan-Dickie delighted to be back in Chiefs mix

Luke Cowan-Dickie admitted he was delighted to mark his return to competitive action with victory over Worcester Warriors in the Aviva Premiership.

Sidelined since November with a broken thumb sustained in the European Champions Cup clash with the Ospreys, the young Cornishman was thrown straight back into the deep end at Sixways.

Initially pencilled in to start the game on the bench, illness to club captain and fellow hooker Jack Yeandle meant Cowan-Dickie was thrust right into the action on his return.

"It was a good game to get back involved with," he said. "I...

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter is backing his squad to show their strength in what will be a gruelling run of fixtures for all 12 clubs in this season’s Aviva Premiership.

Today's (SUNDAY) trip to Worcester Warriors marks the start of ten, unrelenting weeks of top-flight action for the Chiefs, who currently sit second in the standings and have just booked themselves a place in the last eight of the European Champions Cup for the first time.

There will be some out there who would look at the challenge ahead with an air of intrepidation, but not Baxter who, like his...

Baxter's joy as Stevenson makes Exeter return

Rob Baxter admits the return of Lewis Stevenson to Sandy Park “ticks a lot of boxes” for him as Exeter Chiefs look to advance over the course of the season. With both Damian Welch (pec) and Mitch Lees (bicep) set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines following injuries sustained, Baxter has found his options in the Exeter engine room becoming somewhat stretched in recent weeks.

Keen to bolster his playing stock, the Chiefs head coach today spoke of his delight at capturing the 31-year-old forward, who made 62 appearances for Exeter during a two-year stay 2007 and 2009.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has admitted he is hoping to bolster his playing squad over the coming weeks as they brace themselves for a relentless run of fixtures in the Aviva Premiership.

With the Devon club somewhat hamstrung with a series of long-term injuries to a number of their key players, Baxter’s cause is set to be further hampered with the potential loss of others to call-ups in the upcoming Six Nations Championship.

Baxter has said the situation is far from ideal and it appears he’s now set to act, confirming in this week’s media briefing that he is...

Baxter updates on injury front

Jack Nowell’s knee injury will not require surgery and is not as bad as first feared, Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter has revealed.

But that news has been offset by the revelation that lock Mitch Lees is set for around four months on the sidelines after an operation on his injured arm on Monday.

England back Nowell, 22, hobbled off in some pain with eight minutes left in Saturday’s 19-10 win over Gloucester, having badly twisted his knee in a tackle. He is unlikely to train this week.

Lees, who had been tipped for a spot in Eddie Jones’ England squad to be...
