Exeter Chiefs side to face Lyon

Exeter Chiefs side to face Lyon

Rob Baxter says it’s ‘all or nothing’ for his Exeter Chiefs side as they resume the defence of their Heineken Champions Cup crown against Lyon at Sandy Park tomorrow (5:30pm).

Despite playing only one fixture so far in the competition - that ended in a comprehensive 42-0 home win against Glasgow Warriors - that bonus point victory ensured they were among the qualifiers for the new-look format to European Rugby’s premier club competition.

Having thought their hopes were severely dented when they had to concede the game against Toulouse in their second qualifying game back...

Chiefs have 'real desire' to finish season - Rowe

Exeter Rugby Club chief executive, Tony Rowe OBE, insists there is a ‘real desire’ from within the club and from Premiership Rugby to ensure the 2019/20 season is completed.

Although the table-topping Chiefs have not played a competitive fixture since beating Bath 57-20 at Sandy Park back in early March, Rowe is confident that a return to competitive action is not all that far away.

Rowe’s optimism comes following the announcement earlier this week where the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS), Public Health England (PHE), the Department for Health...

The waiting is over and it's back to the hard yards for Rob Baxter and his Exeter Chiefs side as they prepare to welcome Leicester Tigers to Sandy Park in Round One of this season's Gallagher Premiership tomorrow (4:30pm).

In what will be the Devon club's ninth season in English rugby's top flight, expectations levels will again be high as the Chiefs look to again cement themselves amongst the division's frontrunners in the title race

Having lifted the Premiership back in May 2017 with an extra-time victory over Wasps, the Chiefs again found themselves back at Twickenham in...

Harry Williams insists Exeter Chiefs can ill afford to dwell on the disappointment of defeat in May’s Premiership Final against Saracens.

Instead, the England international believes he and his team-mates must instead use that loss as ‘fuel to the fire’ as the Devon club look ahead to the new 2018/19 campaign.

The new season kicks-off in less than a month on September 1 against Leicester Tigers at Sandy Park and the 26-year-old is aiming to be part and parcel of Rob Baxter’s mix as they look to wrestle back their title crown from the Londoners.

“Last season has been...

Steenson signs new deal at Chiefs

Gareth Steenson has spoken of his delight after putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal with the Exeter Chiefs.

The club’s record points-scorer is to extend his stay at Sandy Park until at least the end of 2019/20 season and is the first indication from Director of Rugby Rob Baxter that he is keen to keep hold of a number of his frontline stars moving forward.

Signed by the Chiefs back in the summer of 2010 from the Cornish Pirates, the 33-year-old fly-half has played an integral part in the recent rise of Exeter out of the Championship and into one of the leading rugby...

There may be one round of the scheduled Aviva Premiership season to go, but there is still plenty to do for Rob Baxter and his Exeter Chiefs over the coming weeks.

It starts tomorrow at Kingsholm where Gloucester lie in wait in Round 22 of this season’s competition (4pm).

The Chiefs will head up the M5 safe in the knowledge that they are already assured of a place in the end of season play-offs, but it’s whether they have home advantage that will be uppermost in their thoughts ahead of kick-off.

Win against the Cherry & Whites and the Chiefs will guarantee...

Chief Thomas to call time on Exeter career

Haydn Thomas says he is looking forward to an exciting new chapter in his Exeter Chiefs career after confirming he will be retiring from playing at the end of the season. The long-serving scrum-half has played a pivotal role in the rise of the Devon club over the years, amassing 211 appearances and 46 tries, but will now move into a new full-time academy role with the club from next season. Thomas debuted for the then National League One club back in 2003 in an away fixture at Bedford, before his career took him to the Premiership where he featured for both Gloucester and Bristol.
