While Zimbabwe collapses economically and socially, dedicated conservationists continue their battle to save the country’s wildlife. This tiny antelope – an orphaned Sharpe’s grysbok – is being cared for at Dambari field station, near Bulawayo, after it was found orphaned near Hwange National Park.

You might expect the Director of the Dambari Wildlife Trust, vet Verity Bowman, to have bigger things to worry about than this fragile fawn. She spends her working day guiding her charity through the stormy seas of Zimbabwean life and trying to combat the latest rhino poaching atrocity...

Nepal Earthquake charity relief concert

In an event organised by Exeter musician Luke Bliss-Thompson and his band Swarm, Exeter’s finest musicians have teamed up with Exeter Phoenix to put on a charity concert raising money for the victims of the Nepal earthquake.

Buildings have been flattened, communities shattered and lives torn apart. Dozens of aftershocks continue to hit the area, and people are sleeping in the open air from fear of further destruction. More than 6,000 people are reported to have died and thousands are feared to be trapped under rubble.

1,351 neon night runners race through Exeter

A total of 1,351 crazily dressed runners raced through Exeter’s city streets on Saturday night causing quite a stir!

They were taking part in Exeter’s first ever neon night run and raised tens of thousands of pounds for local end of life charity Hospiscare.

Last call for entries for the Michelmores Charity Run 2015

There's still time to enter the Michelmores Charity Run, taking place on Thursday 11 June 2015 at 7pm and fundraising in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Starting the race is ultra-marathon runner Kevin Carr, from Woolacombe, who circumnavigated the globe running 16,300 miles in a record breaking 621 days.

Setting off from Devon in July 2013, Kevin is also the first person to run around the world solo and unsupported, traversing deserts, high-altitude mountain passes and arctic climes – taking in five continents.

Exeter bee project launches Queen Bee rearing programme

Princesshay’s City Bee project has launched a brand new Queen Bee rearing programme as part of the centre’s continued development of its rooftop environmental scheme.

The project, now in its third year, houses 4 hives with approximately 60,000 bees working them daily.

The Queen Bee rearing programme is a new innovative idea for the Princesshay City Bee Project and will be led by head beekeeper Jason Wallis of WeeTree Nurseries. Exeter student tackles poverty in South Africa

An Exeter College student has been busy organising events to raise funds to support a project that tackles poverty in South Africa.

Berenice Phillips, 18, will travel to South Africa in June this year to work on the development programme for 10 weeks.

She will team up with South African volunteers to tackle some of the problems facing the local community. She will live with a host family over the 10 week placement so will get to experience the countries true culture.

Exeter firm refurbishes WESC Family Centre

WESC Foundation - The Specialist Centre for Visual Impairment based in Topsham Road, Exeter, invited local contractors involved in the refurbishment of the new WESC Assessment and Family Centre, to a guided tour of the new facilities they had helped to create.

Hospiscare annual street collection with D&C Police Pipe Band

Devon and Cornwall Police Pipes and Drums will be performing in Exeter City Centre on Sat 9th May. The band will be playing for Hospiscare during their Annual Street Collection.

The band will be meeting in Mary Arches car park for a quick tune up before heading to St Pancras Church to meet volunteers from Hospiscare.

We'll all then be heading up into the High Street and playing by the monument outside Lloyds Bank.
