George Stafford, 19, has been shortlisted as Donor Champion of the Year at the Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards 2016. The prestigious Anthony Nolan Supporter Awards are back for their fourth year to celebrate, recognise and thank the outstanding supporters who keep the pioneering blood cancer charity moving forward. After watching his two best friends battle blood cancer, George, from West Hill, near Exeter registered as a potential stem cell donor with Anthony Nolan as soon as he was able.

A grand charity auction will take place at the Riviera International Conference Centre in Torquay today (3 November).

For sale? 39 life-size painted rhino figures.

The original, one-off artworks will be raising money to help Critically Endangered wild rhinos in South East Asia. In 2013, the Paignton Zoo Great Gorillas Project charity auction raised £100,000 when 27 large gorillas and two of their smaller cousins went under the hammer.

Exeter School raises £3,000 for charity

Exeter School pupils, parents and staff have succeeded in raising over £3,000 for charity over the first half-term of the academic year on top of collections of food and household essentials.

Three Houses have held cake sales to raise funds for their chosen charities. Daw raised almost £150 for The Francis Crick Institute, Drake raised over £200 for Tearfund and Crossing collected over £300 for Cancer Research.

Christmas time is approaching fast and that means it’s Hospiscare Christmas hamper time once again!

But what does this involve? In fact, it’s very simple.

The local charity is asking everybody to decorate a box and get friends, family colleagues to donate an item to fill it. After that, we just need you to sell some raffle tickets. The winner gets to take home the hamper!

This generous donation helps Hospiscare make Christmas special for local people and their families. It can also serve as an excellent additional treat for an office party or as a clever alternative...

Street Heat leader to lose locks for charity

Young samba band leader Lucy Woolcock is making a double donation to charity on Saturday (22 October), with her hair raising funds for a good cause.

Lucy’s treasured tresses are to be lopped off to raise funds for Meningitis Now – and her lovely lost locks will be donated to the Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for child cancer sufferers.

Lucy, aged 26, has been a member of Exeter-based community samba band Street Heat for five years. The band has over 50 members of all ages and Lucy and was recently voted its joint music co-ordinator.

Hospiscare are delighted to announce that two more of the celebrated local charity’s coffee mornings have proven very successful.

Little MarVals Preschool in Pinhoe held their Hospiscare coffee morning on 30th September. The school which caters for children aged 2-5 years, invited mums and dads and the local community to a parents’ coffee morning at the United Reformed Church in Pinhoe.

Children and parents enjoyed cake and browsing toy stalls and sharing their work with the community. An organist also played and at the end of the day,
