Record year for new business In Devon

New figures just out show that more new companies were registered in Devon during 2016 than in any previous year.

A total of 5,703 new businesses were established in the county compared to 5,394 in 2015.

The number of registered companies in Devon now totals 47,095, up from 44,917 at the end of 2015, which equates to 4.8% growth.

The statistics come from the Inform Direct Review of UK Company Formations, using data from Companies House and the Office of National Statistics.

Plymouth formed the most new businesses (1,189), followed by Exeter (882) and Torbay...

Busy year ahead for Exeter networking group

SUPPORT and training organisation, Exeter PA Network, which has seen its membership increase by 25 per cent in the last year, has launched its programme of activities for the coming 12 months.

ExIST event will explore climate change business opportunities

On the 9th March, Exeter Initiative for Science and Technology (ExIST) will be looking into climate change and the opportunities that lie within this for businesses. The event will be held at the new collaboration suite, which is part of the new Met Office Supercomputer building, finished in 2016.

Companies from across the South West have come together to shape plans for the region’s fast growing technology sector at Exeter Science Park. Tech South West Connect on 25 January saw more than 80 people, representing technology organisations, discuss and agree plans to develop the sector and help it thrive across the region.

South West economy sees strong end to 2016

The South West economy grew at one of the fastest rates in the UK during December, with business activity and the number of new orders rising sharply, according to the latest Lloyds Bank Regional PMI.

The South West PMI® rose to 58.7 in December, up from 56.6 in November. A PMI reading above 50 signifies growth in business activity.

Data for December also showed that employment rose for the sixth month running, supported by an increase in new business orders.
