Healthy turnout for gym voting event

There was a healthy turnout for a voting event held by Budleigh Salterton Town Council for residents to choose their new free-to-use outdoor gym.

The interest shown was impressive, with 139 residents from all age-groups coming along to vote at the late-night shopping event.

Residents got to vote on which one of three designs they wanted installed, the winner with 47% of all votes was Option C, a design from Proludic. The result now needs to be ratified by Budleigh Salterton Town Council and EDDC to release the available money.

Devon GP welcomes Prime Minister’s dementia challenge

A GP from Budleigh Salterton has welcomed a challenge from the Prime Minister to the NHS for 20 per cent more people who have dementia to be diagnosed by 2015.

Dementia Awareness Week takes place this week (19 – 25 May) and the challenge could lead to 160,000 more people in England with dementia receiving access to treatment and support.

£35,000 up for grabs for sport in Budleigh Salterton

Budleigh Salterton parish residents are being asked to decide how to spend £35,000 available for sports in the area.

Budleigh Salterton Town Council and EDDC are taking their voting stall to Budleigh Gala Week, The Green, Budleigh Salterton on Saturday 25 May between 1pm and 4.30pm. So why not go along and cast your vote?

The money has come from recent housing developments (Section 106 money) in the parish. It is now up to residents to decide how the money is used.

South West Water creates 20 new apprenticeships

Up to 20 new apprenticeships are now being offered by South West Water as its successful programme is expanded.

The majority of the chosen trainees will be working within the company's waste water and drinking water teams and responsible for operating and maintaining assets such as pumping stations and large treatment works. A further three apprentices will work in the technical services team and will learn how to install, repair and maintain South West Water's electrical and process control systems.
