Young women gearing up to do "men's" work

Three female engineering students at Bicton College working towards Level 3 Extended Diplomas are headed for academic distinction, even outperforming some of their male peers.

Eighteen-year-old Emily Steer from Plymouth enrolled at the College after being told by people that she couldn’t do it. "The reactions I got surprised me and made me even more determined," says Emily. "And my Dad was really encouraging, which was the catalyst I needed to show everyone that I’m capable of developing a career in engineering."

The Exeter Chiefs Rugby Academy is approaching the end of its second year at Bicton and proving to be an extremely successful partnership. With a growing sporting reputation, and a high demand for places, Bicton is developing its sports facilities and increasing the range of courses on offer. This September students will be able to take their studies to the next level as the College starts a new HNC and HND in Sport (Coaching and Sports Development), alongside the other sports and outdoor adventure courses already running.

The Driver & Logistics Training Centres are go!

Bicton College, has announced it is delighted to be working with partners Transplant MasterTrain and Outside Adventure Consultants Ltd under the brand; "The Driving & Logistics Training Centres" to promote safe and sensible driving.

The college is offering courses such as animal transport certificates of competence, ATV training, tractor driving training, Telehandler and chainsaw NPTC qualifications, as well as first aid and LANTRA awards, all delivered at their stunning campus based in East Devon.

Government's rural economy jobs pledge for Devon

More than 1,100 jobs are expected to be created in Devon and Somerset following a £2.9 million Government investment that will boost the region’s rural economy by £58 million, Farming Minister, Jim Paice announced on his rural roadshow to the region.

Devon and Somerset is one of five regions to benefit from a Rural Growth Network, set up to help rural areas overcome the barriers to economic growth, such as a shortage of business premises and poor broadband access.

Summing up a year and lucky encounters

It’s very nearly that time of year. The time of year we all start trying to sum-up the year which has gone, trying to make sense of all that went on and by doing so put our minds in a place to tackle the next 12 months.
