Stallholders wanted for Summer Fete

Stallholders are wanted for the Beacon Heath Summer Fete on Saturday June 24 - 12noon until 3pm at St James School.

There will be lots of family entertainment, children’s games and a hot dog stall.

The Beacon Community Centre and the Beacon Nursery will also be opening their doors with lots of family fun.

We want to involve the whole community in celebrating the area in which we live.

We’re looking for stallholders selling jewellery, toys, crafts, food, books, hair accessories, sweets, bags and plants.

Lego heaven at Beacon Heath Community Centre

Great news! Lots of Lego has just arrived at The Beacon Community Centre in Beacon Heath.

Richard Cummings, the centre manager, saw a Lego charity offer and applied a few weeks ago. Yesterday, on Rich’s birthday, he received a large box, which must be worth hundreds of pounds of Lego.

Rich said: “It’s brilliant! What a fabulous birthday present. We’re really looking forward to sharing this amazing gift with lots of local children and adults who come along to the many activities we regularly hold here. Thank you Lego.”

Prince Charles' charity supports job fair in Exeter

One of Prince Charles's charities is supporting the first ever job fair to be held in Beacon Heath, Exeter, tomorrow Tuesday 14 March.

Normally job fairs are held in the city centre but in a bid to help local people the Spring Job Fair is being hosted by The Beacon Community Centre from 10am-1pm.

Business in the Community, the Prince's responsible business network is organising the event alongside JobCentre Plus.

First ever jobs fair to be held in Beacon Heath

The first ever job fair to be held in Beacon Heath, Exeter, is taking place on Tuesday 14 March.

The Spring Job Fair is being hosted by The Beacon Community Centre from 10am-1pm. JobCentre Plus, in association with Business in the Community, is organising the event.

Sarah Swain, JobCentre Plus employer advisor, said: “We are pleased to be able to support the residents by holding a job fair at the heart of the community. It’s also a good opportunity to support the community centre.”

Exciting year for community centre

The Beacon Community Centre’s weekly coffee morning and drop-in was transformed into an amazing Christmas party as everyone pulled out the stops to transform the centre with festive cheer.

Our good friend Dave Robertson generously donated bowls of Jelly Beans on tables along with Santa balloons, party food, selection boxes and Christmas crackers.

Rachel Sherring, our resident yoga instructor, brought homemade cake and Tesco gave us mince pies and bakewell tarts – thanks!

500 Trick or Treaters enjoy hot choccie at city home

More than 500 trick or treaters enjoyed hot chocolate and homemade cakes at a city home last night.

Mark and Gemma McHutchon, who belong to the nearby Isca Church, hosted the evening on the drive of their King Arthurs Road home in Beacon Heath.

It was the fifth year they have done this. Members of the Isca Church community prepared large pans of hot chocolate and baked lots of cakes and biscuits.

Sixty children enjoyed Isca Church’s Sports Academy Holiday Club held at Willowbrook Primary School in Beacon Heath.

The action packed week included team challenges, craft, games, quizzes, action songs, telling the Bible story of David and of course lots of pie throwing!

Jane Tricker, Isca Church children’s worker said: “It was great to see so many children from the local community having fun and exploring what it means to be loved and valued for who they are, and how important it is that they each have different talents and abilities.”

Hundreds of people came along to the Beacon Heath Summer Fete and enjoyed an afternoon of fun filled activities in the sunshine.

The fete was held at St James School,The Beacon Community Centre and the Beacon Nursery.

Local churches, councillors, charities, crafts people and the fire brigade were among many local organisations taking part and organisers were delighted with the event.
