Devon caravan park fire

Three fire engines from Axminster, Colyton and Honiton were mobilised to a report of a fire involving an office building and a workshop on a caravan park just after 2am today.

On attendance the incident commander confirmed a fire involving a campsite office and building also used as a garage. Four breathing apparatus and two hose reel jets in use.

A fourth fire engine was mobilised from Seaton with an incident command unit from Wiveliscombe and a Water Carrier from Yeovil on request of the incident commander.

Woman killed in Devon crash

A woman has died from injuries she suffered in a crash on the A35 in Devon.

Two other people are in a critical condidtion in hospital.

A Honda car from the Dorset area and a Vauxhall Zafira from The Isle of Wight were involved in the collision. As a result a 46 year old woman from the Isle of Wight received fatal injuries. Two other occupants of the same vehicle remain in a critical condition in hospital. Next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

Woman dies in head-on crash in East Devon

Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal crash in East Devon.

At approximately 6pm on Saturday 30 January two vehicles were involved in a head on collision on the A35 Charmouth Road, Axminster.

A Honda car from the Dorset area and a Vauxhall Zafira from the Isle of Wight were involved in the collision.

As a result a 46-year-old woman from the Isle of Wight received fatal injuries.

Two other occupants of the same vehicle remain in a critical condition in Hospital.

Next of kin have been informed and enquiries are ongoing.

Law firm raises £2,000 in Will Fortnight

Solicitors at Beviss & Beckingsale raised two grand in two weeks by writing and amending wills for clients in exchange for a donation to local charity Hospiscare.

The Honiton-­based law firm raised a total of £2,004 to help care for patients living with a terminal illness in Exeter, Mid and East Devon.

Lawyers at Beviss & Beckingsale’s office in Honiton raised £1,044, a further £500 came from the Chard office, £385 from staff in Axminster and £75 from Seaton.

Detectives have released EvoFITs of two men they would like to identify in connection with a road rage incident in Axminster.

On Monday 6 April at around 6.30pm two men were assaulted at Weycroft, Axminster, during an alleged road rage incident.

The victims sustained serious head injuries as a result of being struck with a bottle and hammer. They were taken to Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton for treatment.

The suspects left the scene in a dark Ford Focus, heading in the Chard direction.

Special approach to rural crime

Devon and Cornwall police are taking a special approach to combating rural crime.

On Saturday 6 June, special constables carried out an operation around Axminster. Operation Betony which was led by Special Sergeant Piers Layburn and was carried out by a total of nine Special Constables and one Police Constable.

Op Betony involves running stock-checks on all vehicles throughout the evening and undertaking searches if necessary.

Man dies following Axminster crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision in Axminster on Friday 12 June in which a man died.

At 2.30pm Dorset Ambulance Control informed police of a collision involving a car and lorry on the A35 at Raymond’s Hill on the Dorset-bound carriageway, close to the Devon and Dorset border.

Officers from Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police attended, along with highways, fire and ambulance crews.

The 78-year-old male driver of the blue Volkswagen Polo, from Poole, Dorset, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Police name two found dead in East Devon

Two people have been named following the discovery of two bodies at a home in Axminster on Sunday (10 May).

They have been named as Jane McCartney aged 59 from the Dalwood area of East Devon, and Graham McCartney aged 63 from Honiton.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragic deaths of this couple, but are not looking for any other persons in relation to the incident.

Family members have been made aware of their deaths and are being supported by specially trained police family liaison officers.
