A Stagecoach South West employee was among the winners at the annual Stagecoach Group Champions Awards.

The awards – now in their sixth year – recognise excellence over six areas including Safety, Health, Community, Customer Service, Environment and Innovation.

At this year’s ceremony Stagecoach South West employee Toby Kay was awarded the Bronze Safety Champion award.

Genetic Diabetes Nurse initiative wins national award

A nurse training initiative developed by a team at the University of Exeter Medical School and the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital to improve diagnosis of monogenic diabetes has won a national award for its contribution to diabetes care.

The Genetic Diabetes Nurse (GDN) initiative won the award for ‘Best innovation in integrated commissioning, or integrated care, model’ at the Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes programme awards in Guilford on the 15th October.

Devon racecourse named one of best in Britain

Newton Abbot Racecourse has been named as one of the best racecourses in Britain for racehorse owners, after once again achieving Gold Standard from the Racehorse Owners’ Association (ROA).

Out of 60 racecourses in the country, Newton Abbot was one of 12 racecourses to be awarded the accolade, with others including Hamilton Park, Kempton Park and Market Rasen.

The Gold Standard award strives to recognise excellence for owners at each racecourse in the country and looks to improve the experience for racehorse owners year on year.

Five regional Police Forces came together on Saturday (10 October) to celebrate the phenomenal work of their dedicated volunteers from across the South West region.

The SW Region Special Constabulary and Police Support Volunteer awards were hosted by Devon and Cornwall Police at Exeter Golf and Country Club. The managing partner of a leading Devon law firm has won the accolade of Managing Partner of the Year at a national legal awards.

Exeter’s railway wins trio of national awards

Exeter’s railway was a triple winner at the national Community Rail Awards held at Torquay’s Riviera International Centre on 1st October.

In front of an audience of more than 330 rail industry staff and volunteers, a campaign to promote the counties’ most scenic rail routes won first prize in the Marketing category. The campaign included the GreatScenicRailways.com website, a stall at London Paddington and an eye-catching advertising campaign. South West law firm Michelmores LLP has awarded Kelly Newman, a third-year student at Exeter University with its 2015 Land Law prize for achieving the best results in her year – Kelly scored an impressive 78/100.

The Firm has been awarding the Land Law prize to the student with the best performance on that course at Exeter University for over 20 years.

Cracking crab wins top accolade

FAMILY fishing firm Favis of Salcombe are celebrating after their crab meat was voted Supreme Champion Product in the Taste of the West Awards 2015.

The prestigious accolade was given to them after judges described their white crab meat as “outstandingly high quality.”

Favis of Salcombe have been sustainably fishing crab and lobster off South Devon since 1972. Last year they branched out into cooking and handpicking crab at their factory just outside Kingsbridge, before distributing it to some of the finest chefs and restaurants in the UK.
