Devon’s Air Ambulances recently celebrated becoming truly independent and self-sufficient.

The Charity, through its operating arm Devon Air Ambulance Trading Company Limited, has been awarded their own Air Operators Certificate (AOC) from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), something the Charity have previously relied on other agencies to hold and operate on their behalf.

Rising assaults against ambulance drivers

The rising number of assaults against frontline staff has seen the Ambulance service re-commit to a zero tolerance approach to abuse. The South West Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SWASFT) reports that there were 104 reports of physical abuse against frontline staff in the last 12 months. 73 of the reported assaults were referred to the police with 22 incidents leading to the abusive patients to be arrested. Man with suspected spinal injuries after A303 crash

A man has been taken to Wonford hospital with suspected spinal injuries after his car overturned on the A303 near Honiton this morning. Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 7am this morning (15 January) due to the accident involving two vehicles. Fire crews attended the accident and used hydraulic cutting gear to free the man, thought to be aged between 20-30, from a veichle on its side. A303 closed and slow traffic in both directions between the A30 junction in Upottery and Southfields Roundabout in Donyatt, because of Police accident investigation work.

Attempted murder in Seaton

A man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident at the Vault public house in Seaton.

A Seaton man, Raoul East, 37 was charged following an incident which left a man in his forties with a stab wound in his chest.

The victim was taken to Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital but his injuries are not considered as life-threatening.

Ambulance crews treating the man called the police who arrested Mr East.

Mr East is due to appear in Exeter Magistrates Court later today (January 6)

Taxis answer 999 calls in South West

A Freedom of Infomation (FOI) request has revealed that the South Western Ambulance Trust (SWASFT) has sent taxis to 158 999 calls in 2013/14. The evidence was presented to the House of Commons yesterday by Shadow Health Secretary, Andy Burnham who claimed that the news revealed a deepening crisis in UK A&E’s. Two lorries involved in collision on the A30 near Okehampton

Update at 12pm: Road is now fully open.

Reported earlier today: One lane remains closed on the A30 near Okehampton after two lorries collided at around 6.10am on Thursday 10 October.

The drivers of both drivers were taken to hospital; both are believed to have leg injuries which are not thought to be life threatening or life changing.

The collision occurred between the B3260 turning and Sourton Cross, westbound. Police say the recovery of the vehicles is underway.

Woman in sea rescued by police

A 19-year-old woman was rescued by police officers who waded into the sea in Exmouth at the weekend.

Police were called at 7.30pm on Sunday 6 October by the woman’s friend who was concerned about her walking out to sea.

Two officers from the Force Support Group, based in Exeter, were in the area at the time and rushed to The Esplanade area of the town.

When PC Grahame Bailey and PC Geoff Howell arrived they spoke to the friend who pointed out where she was.

The officers ran in to the sea until they could reach the woman. The pair grabbed her around 50 metres...

Two vans in collision on A38 at Kennford

Police were called to the A38 at Kennford, Exeter just before 6.30am today (Thursday 22 August) after two vans were involved in a collision. The incident happened in the outside lane at the bottom of Telegraph Hill, just before Splatford Split on the southbound carriageway heading towards Newton Abbot. The outside lane was blocked and Highways are dealing with this. The ambulance service were called to treat minor injuries. The vans involved were a white Renault Trafic van registered to Slough and white Mercedes Sprinter van registered to Bristol.

17-year-old boy airlifted after car overturns on M5 near Cullompton

A 17-year-old boy has been airlifted to hospital after the car he was travelling rolled on the M5 southbound near Cullompton.

The collision happened just before 11am today (Monday 19 August) about one mile past Junction 28.

Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene.

Five people were injured in the silver Toyota Avensis, which is registered to Pontefract, West Yorkshire.

A 17-year-old boy has been taken by air ambulance to Derriford with a head injury. The other four occupants of the car have been taken to RD&E with minor injuries....

Tributes paid to doting father killed in speedboat accident

Tributes have been paid to Nick Milligan, the 51-year-old father killed in a tragic speedboat accident in the Camel Estuary near Padstow on Sunday (5 May).

Mr Milligan and his eight-year-old daughter died after they and four other members of their family were thrown out of the boat into the water. They are believed to have been hit by the vessel as it circled the vicinity.

Eye witness reports suggest the boat was out of control in water near to the harbour of the North Cornwall town.
