Tilia Homes acquires land in Exeter

Tilia Homes has purchased a 10-acre parcel of land at Shillingford Road in Exeter, as it seeks to expand its property portfolio into this historic city.

The site is located in Alphington and has outline planning permission in place for more than 100 homes. 30% of the homes will be allocated as affordable properties in a mix of social rent and share ownership tenures, and Tilia Homes will be making a significant financial contribution to the local area through the Section 106 agreement. Local Authority Building Control (LABC), the membership organisation for 3,500 public service building surveyors in England and Wales, has launched a fully funded trainee scheme to attract new recruits into the profession.

Following the landmark Building Safety Act 2022, LABC is boosting building control capacity in light of new responsibilities and support for the Building Safety Regulator. The regulator will be responsible for ensuring the safety of all new higher risk buildings and for the oversight of 12,000 existing occupied tall buildings.

South Western Railway (SWR) customers are being discouraged from travelling to the coast later this week and into the weekend, with strike action set to cause severe disruption across the network.

While the fine weather might make a day trip to the beach an attractive prospect, SWR is urging its customers to only travel on the network if absolutely necessary between Thursday 18 and Sunday 21 August.

Distance learning provider, Open Study College, has launched a new qualification to its growing portfolio of online courses for those looking to pursue a career in the police, legal and criminology sectors.
