Funding agreed to turn former golf course into wildlife haven

Almost £290,000 will be spent on turning Exeter’s former Northbook golf course into a wildlife haven.

The city council’s executive agreed to allocate the money at its meeting this week, with £222,000 coming from developer contributions and the remainder from partners.

A consultation last year found that 96 per cent of people supported the idea of a wildlife arboretum – a space for wildlife habitats, trees and wildflower meadows – at the former course on Topsham Road.

Crowds gathered at Exeter's County Hall as our new King is proclaimed

Crowds, including scores of invited dignitaries, gathered in the grounds of Devon County Council’s County Hall in Exeter this afternoon to hear the High Sheriff of Devon, Richard Youngman, officially read the Proclamation confirming King Charles III as monarch.

World-renowned experts will discuss the power of "positive tipping points" to tackle the climate crisis at the University of Exeter next week.

A Persimmon Homes employee is swapping planning consultations and applications for the challenges of road and water, after being selected to represent Great Britain at this month’s European Aquathlon Championships in Bilbao.

Ollie Thorogood, a planner in the company’s South West region, has been selected for the 1km swim and 5km run event, which will be held in the Spanish city on 23rdSeptember.

Devon fitness coach, Duncan Attwood of fit20 Exeter and his daughter Leah, (16) recently made their first skydive despite sharing a fear of heights. The pair jumped out of a plane at 15000 feet to support InFocus Charity which supports young people with vision impairment and complex needs.

Proclamation will be read by the Lord Mayor of Exeter on Sunday

His Majesty The King will be proclaimed at the Accession Council on Saturday 10 September at St James’s Palace in London and the Proclamation will be read at 11am.
