Your views wanted on new rail stations for the city

Businesses and residents in Exeter are being asked for their views on proposals for two new railway stations in the city.

The new stations being planned by Devon County Council for Newcourt and Marsh Barton have been identified within the Local Transport Plan and Exeter City’s Local Development Framework.

The County Council is seeking the views of local firms and residents in advance of submitting detailed planning applications for each station next year.

Before this can take place, officers will be reporting to the County Council’s Cabinet later this year on...

Bauza goes close but Exeter City suffer another defeat

Exeter City’s poor run of results continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at home to Chesterfield. In a close game a first-half header by Chris Atkinson was enough to claim all three points for the visitors at St James Park. Both sides wasted a host chances with Ci´ty going close late-on in the second-half through Guillem Bauza and Scott Bennett. The visitors had goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell to thank after the keeper produced a series of fine saves to earn Chesterfield all 3 points.

Ruthie Wright is British Chessboxing Champion

To their clients Andy Costello and Ruthie Wright from Exeter's fitness and martial arts club Project Mayhem are ordinairy instructors but they have a mutual, private passion - boxing and chess.

County’s new flagship ‘Heritage Centre’ to officially open

Devon County Council’s new ‘Heritage Centre’ will be officially opened next week by Council Chairman Jerry Brook.

The flagship centre was created as part of a drive to modernise the Council’s heritage service, and sees the Westcountry Studies Library and the Exeter branch of the Devon Record Office conveniently brought together under one roof for the first time.

Located at Great Moor House in Sowton, the facility houses historical resources from a variety of sources which relate to the County of Devon. These include original parish records on individuals, families, estates...

The Great Exeter Tea Cosy Competition comes to Exeter

There is something exciting going on at The Hub on the Green and word is spreading. There is talk of tea cosies in school playgrounds, street corners and all over Twitter.

Liz Croft, who volunteers her time to run the knitting group at the hub, had a lovely idea to start a tea cosy competition and Joey Lee who runs The Hub on the Green challenged her to take it outside of the hub and make it something rather special. And she has.

James Baker from Cockwood, Exeter, has reached the final in a nationwide competition launched by Farmers Weekly to find the UK’s brightest farming talent.

South West artists use new technology to create 3D art

A new partnership between Exeter Phoenix and The University of Exeter’s Centre for Additive Layer Manufacturing (CALM) has enabled 30 artists to explore the possibilities offered by 3D printing. Neoreplicants , a new exhibition at Phoenix Gallery, showcases the artwork created using this incredible technology.

Budding ghost hunters can get into the ‘spirit’ of Halloween this year by taking part in the ever popular Spooks and Broomsticks Tours. Managed by Exeter City Council, these free guided walking tours take place on Wednesday 31 October and depart from outside the Royal Clarence Hotel, Cathedral Yard, from 6.15pm, with the last tour departing at 7pm. Met Office director wins prestigious award

Rob Varley, the Met Office's director of operations and services, has been named Public/Third Sector Director of the Year for his work at the Met Office.

Community focus for City's Chesterfield encounter

Exeter City will be putting the focus on disability this Saturday (20 October) when they hold their annual One Game One Community designated game versus Chesterfield at St James’ Park. (3pm)
