Exeter City Council seeks views on sex establishment policy

People can have their say on Exeter City Council's Sex Establishment Policy.

The current interim policy limits the number of Sex Entertainment Venues (SEVs) to one in the City Centre and zero elsewhere. It also restricts the number of sex shops to two.

The Council would like to consult Exeter residents and other interested parties on whether this is appropriate to have a policy and if so, what sort of controls and conditions should be included to ensure that the premises are situated in appropriate locations and properly managed.

Plymouth Argyle are keen to ensure Exeter City fans visiting the city for the upcoming local derby enjoy a competitive game of football, where the match is remembered for the right reasons.

Powering ‘Henry’ HQ with renewable energy

Exeter renewable energy specialist SunGift Solar has completed a flagship 250 kW solar PV system for Numatic International – manufacturer of the world-renowned Henry vacuum at the company’s HQ in Chard, Somerset.

Generating an estimated 235,000 kW hours each year (equivalent to the average annual electricity usage of 71 homes), the 1,000-panel system stretches over three roofs at Numatic’s manufacturing facility and took just under a month to complete. With just a month to go until nominations for this year’s National Apprenticeship Awards competitions close (on 26 April 2013), current apprentices and employers across Devon are being encouraged to enter as the awards celebrate their 10th year.

Dawlish Strand regeneration taking shape

Work is progressing well on the £1.5 million regeneration of Dawlish Strand.

The scheme, which is a joint initiative between Devon County , Teignbridge District and Dawlish Town Councils , is taking shape, with the removal of the wall, shelter and large shrubs visually opening The Lawns up to The Strand.

A Devon housebuilder is set to give one regional charity a welcome fundraising boost having raised over £2,000.

Persimmon Homes South West and its employees managed to raise £2,156 by holding several fundraising activities throughout 2012 for their chosen charity the Devon Air Ambulance Trust (DAAT).

Feasibility study reveals millions of pounds of work needed to repair Exeter churches

At the end of 2012 the congregations of St Thomas, St Andrew and Emmanuel churches in West Exe commissioned a feasibility study to make recommendations about the future of their buildings.

The congregations of the churches, numbering around 100 dedicated people, want to concentrate their attention on working in the wider community to care for the spiritual and pastoral needs of people rather than putting all their limited resources into the upkeep of their buildings.
