Stunning sculptures at Overbeck’s send shivers down the spine

The first ever sculpture exhibition held at Overbeck’s, the exotic hidden garden overlooking Salcombe estuary and the sea, is proving to be a great success with visitors this summer.

Each of the ten sculptures chosen for the exhibition, entitled ‘An Uncommon Quest’, is as unique and spectacular as Overbeck’s sub-tropical garden. Inspired by the beautiful natural forms all around, they reflect the spirit of Overbeck’s as a place of curiosity, discovery and creativity.

From field to plate at New Barton Farm

On Saturday 13 July the National Trust South Devon rangers joined forces with New Barton farm tenants, Tim and Charlotte Jakins, for the annual ‘From Field to Plate’ open day. The sun shone, and a large crowd of visitors soon formed at the farm.

The aim of the day was to reconnect consumers to their food, giving people a better understanding of the countryside and how their food is produced. It also promoted the purchase of local food and produce, such as New Barton Farm’s own range, Moostone Meats.

Retro tea room comes to Exeter

Starbucks and Costas are now ten a penny across The UK, and globally. Luckily for Exeter residents and visitors a new tea room has burst on to the scene offering them beautiful things, amazing service, and just something that little bit different.

The Hidden Treasure Tea Room, located at New Bridge Street just off from Fore Street, opened on the 13 July and has been a roaring success ever since.

ELF Runners enjoy evening with Jo Pavey

Exeter Leukaemia Fund were delighted to welcome special guest, Olympian and ELF Vice Patron, Jo Pavey, to their second Let’s Talk Running event which was held at the Buckerell Lodge Hotel on Tuesday 23 July.

The events are held for runners of all abilities who are currently training to run an event in aid of ELF, have run for ELF in the past, or are interested in running for ELF in the future.

Exmouth RNLI called to the aid of a kitesurfer and a trimaran

Crew volunteers rescued a novice kitesurfer from Exmouth’s ‘duckpond’ in the rising tide on 25 July. Later that afternoon, the inshore lifeboat was tasked to rescue two people in the water after their trimaran capsized near the marina.

Brixham coastguard tasked the inshore lifeboat George Bearman at 9.34am, responding to an emergency call to a kitesurfer in difficulties in the Exe estuary. Crew volunteers Scott Ranft, Roy Stott and Guy Munnings located the casualty, a man from Exeter, within five minutes of launching.
