For the first time a study of divers and anglers has revealed that the creation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in UK seas will not only benefit habitats and wildlife, but will also bring considerable economic benefits and have a positive effect on the well-being of sea and coastal users. The Marine Conservation Society (MCS) welcomes the report and says it shines a light on some of the wider benefits that a proposed network of Marine Conservation Zones around England will bring to the public purse and which Defra has so far turned a blind eye to.
Topsham based commercial photographer and published poet, Meia Allegranza, is launching a Poetography Exhibition on 1 August 2013 in Topsham’s The Café.
The exhibition, called “Poetography for the All Generations”, will showcase Meia’s two passions, photography and poetry, as she brings together 14 of her favourite Photos and poems.

Exeter is preparing to welcome ten life-sized painted gorilla sculptures.
They will arrive by boat on Thursday 25 July. To see the spectacle you’ll need to be at Exeter Quay for 10.30am.

His Royal Highness The Earl of Wessex KG GCVO will mark the tenth birthday of Living Coasts with a visit to the conservation charity on Monday 22 July.
His Royal Highness will tour Torquay’s coastal zoo and aquarium and meet staff involved in the project. The Earl will see puffins, penguins, wading birds, sea ducks and seals at close hand, both above and below the water.

Hundreds of construction workers across Exeter are being encouraged to cover up and slap on the sun cream as part of a national sun safety campaign from Taylor Wimpey. Three female engineering students at Bicton College working towards Level 3 Extended Diplomas are headed for academic distinction, even outperforming some of their male peers.
