The University of Exeter has awarded an honorary degree to one of its most distinguished academics, Professor Tim Niblock, Emeritus Professor of Middle Eastern Politics. First Great Western secures new deal to operate train services in the South West

The government has announced that First Great Western Ltd will continue to operate trains between London Paddington and the south west until September 2015.

Cameron urges GP surgeries to follow Exeter Dental Centre’s lead and open 7 days a week

A private dental centre in Exeter has welcomed the news that David Cameron is looking to offer more patients the chance to visit a GP in the evening or at weekends by piloting a scheme in nine areas of England, where surgeries will be able to bid for funding to open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.

The finest china – and some porcelain puppies

Porcelain Complexion - a new exhibition from Devon Guild and Plymouth Museum on show at Bovey Tracey's craft gallery from 4 October to 17 November.

The exhibition tells the story of porcelain’s journey from China to Devon. It combines historical artefacts specially loaned from Plymouth Museum with the work of several contemporary makers. Amongst the antique tea-ware sits Carl – part of a group of hand-dipped porcelain dogs by Helen Felcey. For her, porcelain embodies both sharpness and softness and gives the familiar an other-worldly quality.

Notable ceramicist, Takeshi Yasuda, will talk about Jingdezhen, the city in China associated with the historical and contemporary production of porcelain. Caroline Quentin shows her support for Mark Tyler's head shave

Ahead of Mark Tyler's head shave for his adoption charity, Families for Children, fellow Patron Caroline Quentin offered to chop off the first lock!

Mark will be losing his hair this coming Friday 4 October, at 1pm in Princesshay.

Ally Colton, Fundraising & Publicity Co-ordinator said "this is a wonderful way for Mark to celebrate his 50th birthday - by raising funds for the adoption charity which successfully placed him."
