One year anniversary of Conversation Café and Ukraine Welcome Hub for Devon

On 24 March 2022, Maketank and a community of volunteers opened the Conversation Café at 6 Paris Street, Exeter, to serve as a space of learning about Ukraine, the reasons for and implications of the full-scale Russian invasion on 24 February 2022, and to support newly arriving Ukrainians to Devon and their sponsors.

It soon became the welcome hub for refugees and new arrivals from Ukraine, with a mission to create a culture of welcome and safety for those seeking a sanctuary from war.

A Devon woman says she hopes her appearance on a popular BBC adventure challenge series will encourage others with sight loss to take on their own challenges.

Tricia Sail, who has uveitis and is registered as severely sight impaired, and her fully sighted friend Cathie, are taking part in the third series of BAFTA-award winning BBC programme Race Across the World, which returns to our screens at 9pm on Wednesday 22 March, after a three-year hiatus.

The 24th Nello bike ride will take place on Sunday 25th June 2023.

Since the first Nello Century Cycle Challenge in 2000, the ride has raised more than £1.2m for FORCE Cancer Charity, which works locally to support anyone affected by cancer, face-to-face and close to home.

The ride has grown from attracting a field of 90 cyclists in that first year to regularly filling up to its 1,500 capacity. Choose from two great routes and be a part of this very special ride.

McDonald’s franchisee, David Shawyer, who owns and operates four restaurants in the Exeter and Exmouth area, has just announced his partnership with CEDA (Community, Equality, Disability Action), an independent registered charity who provide learning and social opportunities for disabled people in Devon.

To celebrate David’s new partnership, on Tuesday 14th March he hosted a VIP event at his Exeter High Street restaurant whereby CEDA young people had exclusive use of the restaurant and received a meal from McDonald’s.

Pros

One of the primary advantages of an early London checkout is that you won’t have to spend the day waiting to leave. Later checkouts often leave people wandering aimlessly around trying to pass the time, but with an early checkout, you can get up and go straight away. Cumberland Grange Care Home in Exeter was delighted to welcome some very special feathered visitors for the day recently, when some magnificent birds of prey came to visit.

Residents were given the opportunity to get up close to the impressive birds, along with learning more about the history and characteristics of the different breeds, as part of a very special animal therapy session.
