ABBA Tribute Show with ABBA Revival

THE UK'S official number one ABBA tribute band are heading to Tiverton Golf Club, Devon, in April.

ABBA Revival won the accolade at the recent National Tribute Awards, hosted by The Agents' Association.

Their show at the golf club on Friday 4 April sold out within two weeks in January.

The quick sell-out prompted the club to book a second date with the same band on Thursday 3 April (7pm), which is open to everyone.

The shows, which are being sponsored by Angel Guest House in Tiverton, will coincide with the 40th anniversary of the release of ABBA...

Men sentenced for misleading consumers

Two men, Neil Mendoza of Exeter and Michael Girvin of Exmouth, have received suspended imprisonment sentences and community service, for their part in a scam to mislead time share owners.

Sentenced this week, Mendoza received nine months imprisonment suspended for two years, with 200 hours community service, and Girvin received 12 months imprisonment suspended for two years with 200 hours community service. Girvin also received disqualification as a company director.

NFU: Flood plans sacrificed farmland

The Government must review its flooding and coastal defence policies and commit more money to reducing further risks to the British countryside, the NFU said today. The call comes as part of the NFU’s new flooding manifesto which was launched at this morning at the second day of the union’s annual conference in Birmingham. Exeter is expected to benefit from a major economic boost from the Rugby World Cup 2015, City Council leaders have said. Science and humanities subjects at the University of Exeter rank amongst the world’s best, according to an influential international league table published today. The league table, which measures the reputation of the subjects taught at 2,858 universities around the world, ranks Exeter University in the top 200 for 15 of the 30 subjects measured. Local businesses support sleep-out fundraiser

Several businesses are supporting Exeter YMCA’s biggest fundraising event, Sleep Easy 2014, by donating prizes.

Sleep Easy involves members of the public spending a night under the stars to raise awareness and funds for Exeter YMCA’s work of supporting homeless young people.

Last year over 180 people took part, raising over £30,000, and Exeter YMCA hope Sleep Easy 2014 will outdo last year’s success.

To spur the participants on in their fundraising, prizes have been donated for the top fundraisers.

Five Alternative routes to Dawlish

Network Rail has said they will consider five alternative routes as a long term response to the destroyed line at Dawlish.

Options include creating a new passenger route using the existing freight train lines at Alphington and Heathfield near Newton Abbot. Another option is to reinstate the closed Okehampton line which is expected to cost up to £700m.
