Vehicle Fire at Trago Mills Petrol Station

A vehicle has been left severely damaged after suffering from a fire at Trago Mills Petrol Station.

Two fire appliances from Newton Abbot attended the incident, at 12.28pm, with the fire believed to be accidental.

The vehicle had been pushed off of the forecourt before the fire service arrived.

On arrival, crews found the vehicle to be well alight. They used two breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and four dry powder extinguishers.

The fire resulted in the engine compartment of the vehicle being severely damaged by fire.

Seaton Hotel gets go-ahead after bat corridor promise

Plans for a 12-bed hotel with 38 units of self-catering holiday accommodation at Seaton Heights were last week given the go-ahead by EDDC.

The proposal was initially refused because of objections from Natural England who were concerned about potential interference with bat movements in the area.

The biggest ever guide to Exeter was published this weekend offering tourists an array of places to visit and stay in what is fast becoming one of the region’s top city break destinations.

Latest figures confirm that in total almost £187m was spent by visitors whilst on holiday in the city (2012).

Spend by UK holidaymakers staying overnight in Exeter increased from £66m to £80m and for overseas visitors from £30.2m to £38.7m (between 2011 and 2012). In just four years, spend by overseas visitors in Exeter has almost doubled, from £20.9m in 2009 to £38.7m in 2012.

Devon law firm wins six figure pay out for accident victim

Leading Devon law firm, WBW Solicitors have achieved a six figure pay out for a client following a serious road traffic accident approximately four years ago.

The man concerned, who wishes to remain anonymous, was involved in a high speed head on collision and suffered a serious brain injury and pelvic injuries.

He was in intensive care for several weeks undergoing many operations. As a result of his injuries he has been left with memory problems, fatigue, significant scarring and walks with a limp and will have to undergo further surgery in the future.

Hospiscare has paired up with local solicitors who are giving up their time for free, to offer people the chance to have a professionally written Will for free so that they can make a donation to charity instead.

There are 30 local solicitors taking part in Will Writing Fortnight between 12th and 23rd May, helping people to plan for the future. Around 50 people a year leave a gift to Hospiscare in their Will. Hospiscare relies on gifts in Wills to safeguard the care of its patients in the future.

Exeter Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter believes new signing Elvis Taione will offer "something different" to his squad ahead of the 2014/15 season.
