Michael Caines and a host of super chefs will once again be cooking up a storm in Exeter later this month.

The Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink takes place between Friday 25th- Sunday 27th April at Exeter Castle and Northernhay Gardens, with family attractions to keep everyone entertained, plus three Festival After Dark Party Nights on Thursday 24th-Saturday 28th April in Exeter Castle.

Half of Libraries Could Close

More than half of Devon’s libraries could face closure as the county council announce plans to cut back their support to the service.

Under the plans 28 out of 50 council-run libraries, including the libraries in St.Thomas and Pinhoe, would either have to be taken on by communities volunteers or else face closure. The plans could also see the council’s 22 remaining libraries, which the council say account for nearly 80% of the developed to provide a broader service known as ‘Devon Centres’.

Surviving and Thriving under Climate Change

Researchers from the University of Exeter are investigating the effect of climate change on deltas in South Asia and Africa to understand how people will respond and adapt.

Deltas are economic and environmental hotspots, with many large deltas in South, South-East and East Asia and Africa. The new $13 million project examines four deltas that are home to almost 200 million people, many of whom are farmers who provide food for a large proportion of the population.

Children whose homes have been burgled are more likely to struggle at school and have trouble sleeping, according to new research from independent charity Victim Support and home security specialist ADT.

New store manager rides into town

A new store manager has been appointed at Fairway Furniture’s Newton Abbot branch.

Andy Green, 46, said his main focus at the Newton Road branch in Kingsteignton will be on enhancing the customer experience.

After an absence of over ten years, Exeter is to take part in this year’s prestigious Britain in Bloom competition.

The Chairman of RHS Britain in Bloom South West, Jon Wheatley, said he is "delighted" to welcome Exeter back to the competition. Exeter was one of the 'highlight' cities when the competition started 50 years ago and although it has been absent from the main category event for over a decade, its return this year has delighted the organisers.

Health Warning as Smog Levels Rise

People who suffer form lung or heart disease are warned not excersise outdoors today due higher than usual levels of air pollution.

In the last few days a combination of local emissions, light winds, pollution from the continent and dust blown over from the Sahara caused a spike in the UK Air Quality Index compiled by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra).
