Recruitment day targets 20 new jobs

Gregory Distribution Limited (GDL) has announced a huge recruitment drive in the wake of recent growth and strategic acquisitions.

The warehouse and logistics group, which includes Kay Transport and Hayton Coulthard Transport, currently employs nearly 1,500 people over 22 sites nationwide, but estimates it could require in excess of 100 new recruits over the next 12 months.

Chief Executive John Gregory said: “We have grown by 30% over the last three years. We have now identified further areas of the business that require new recruits, including drivers and support staff....

Housing survey offers chance to win iPad

Exeter City Council is working with the University of Exeter to look at housing for the future in the city.

Cllr Rob Hannaford, Lead Councillor for Housing and Customer Access, said: “We’re really keen to hear from people who are not currently registered for social housing. We already know quite a lot about housing need in Exeter because there are over 4,000 households registered on Devon Home Choice, now we want to hear from those not on the list.”

Filmmaker in Residence at the Exeter Phoenix and Founder of Puny Gods Pop Up Cinema, David Salas, needs your support for latest project - The Emotional History of Places - a film about the potential for important moments to occur in nondescript places.

Night Market comes to Exeter Quay

Exeter Street Food’s weekly market at the Guildhall Shopping Centre has been so successful that organisers have decided to expand to Exeter Quay.

Lyndsey Terrell, Events Manager at Exeter Street Food said: “The Quay was the obvious choice. After living in Exeter for many years you see how integral it is to Exeter’s recreational activities.

“The Quay is also significant as it was the old fish market; and lovely that such a modern concept as ‘The Street Food Revolution’ ties in with the history of the venue."

New Venue for Social Media Cafe

The Riviera Cafe Bar in Teignmouth is the new host for the Teignmouth and Dawlish Social Media Cafe being held on Wednesday 3 September. Social media experts will be gathering upstairs at the venue to support local businesses and community organisations.

The social media cafe runs from 5pm to 7.30pm and provides a free drop-in event where people can pick up tips and hints on using social media, ask questions, meet other like-minded people over a cup of coffee or a beer.

It’s a wrap for Chilango’s Burrito Bond

The London-based, Mexican restaurant chain, Chilango is celebrating the success of its mini-bond campaign on the Crowdcube crowdfunding platform.

749 people have put £2,160,000 into the Burrito BondTM in return for 8% gross interest per annum during the four year term of the bond. This is the largest amount ever raised on Crowdcube, beating last year’s record set by Hab Housing of £1.97 million.

The average amount invested is approximately £2,900, with the largest investment at £50,000.
