For the fourth time on the bounce, Exeter City secured a 2-1 victory – and this time it was Dagenham & Redbridge that were the vanquished side.

City were trailing to a goal by former Grecian Jamie Cureton at the break following a disappointing first half.

A polar bear called Bjorn is coming to the English Riviera – for one day.

Bjorn is a life-size and incredibly life-like animatronic. The huge, hi-tech puppet will perform three 20-minute shows at 11.00am, 2.00pm and 3.30pm on Wednesday 29th October.

Bjorn is playful, mischievous and extremely huggable, and is just about kept in check by Arctic explorer Ursula. Their science-based show has been performed at events such as BT Young Scientist of the Year, Cambridge Science Week, W5 Science Centre & World Oceans Day.

Princesshay’s Student Lock In a huge success

Over 5,000 students descended on Princesshay, Exeter between 6.30pm – 9pm on Wednesday 1st October for its annual Student Lock In event. Over 35 retailers and restaurants opened their doors after hours to offer discounts of up to 25% to students for ‘one night only’.

The event has been hailed the busiest and most successful Student Lock In to date for the city.

Devon residents urged to get flu jab

Devon residents susceptible to the effects of flu because they have long term health conditions, are pregnant, 65 or over or live or work in a care home are being reminded to get their annual vaccination to protect them against the illness this winter.

Flu can be a serious illness, particularly for those in the ‘at risk’ groups, so Devon County Council’s Public Health team is reminding everyone who is eligible for vaccination to get their free flu jab from their GP early in the season. The vaccination is the most effective form of protection against flu.

Two of the UK’s leading education centres, the University of Exeter and the Eden Project, have celebrated their strengthening links with a formal signing ceremony.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by Professor Mark Goodwin, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for External Affairs at the University, and Eden Executive Director David Harland was followed by the planting of a tree to mark the continued strategic partnership between the two organisations.

The new look Sandy Park was reopened in style following its £10 million refurbishment with an impressive gala dinner for over 600 people.

Grants available for Devon schools

Grants of between £5,000 and £10,000 are available for schools in Devon to develop creative and engaging learning experiences that will develop students skills in enterprise and innovation.

Devon County Council's Enterprise in Schools Grant (EiSG) programme is open to state funded and primary schools benefitting Year 6 pupils and above.

The grant scheme follows on from a pilot scheme launched at the beginning of the year which saw five Devon schools receive a programme of entrepreneurial learning activities.
