Women's biggest niggles revealed

Bad manners, telemarketing calls and bras digging in are among the top annoying ‘niggles’ that women in Exeter face on a daily basis.

Survey figures revealed that on average females experience at least five annoying niggles on a daily basis, including bad manners (50%), telemarketing calls (45%), ill-fitting lingerie (38%) and annoying Facebook statuses (37%), all filling the top 10 of life’s daily annoyances.

The research, for Triumph lingerie, also showed more than half (62%) of women in Exeter actively seek help to overcome their daily niggles, with talking to a friend...

Fatstock Show plus Military Wives concert

Sheep and the wool trade first brought wealth to the South Molton district during the 17th century and indeed the town’s emblem still incorporates a ram at its heart. Even today there are more sheep per acre in this area than anywhere else in the world! So what could be more appropriate than having wool as the theme of this year’s Christmas Fatstock Show, which runs from 10.00am – 4.00pm on Sunday 7 December.

And to increase the appeal of the event, The Military Wives will be performing from 6.30pm on the same evening.

The Buturi Project is a small charity made up of like-minded volunteers, helping a remote village in Tanzania, on the shore of Lake Victoria, where they are struggling with poverty in near intolerable conditions.

Like many parts of sub-Saharan Africa, Buturi has suffered from the twin disasters of AIDS and drought.

Exe Estuary Trail opens

The Exe Estuary Trail, Devon’s flagship cycle route, will be fully open to the public from this weekend.

The opening of the final £1.6 million section of the trail, which links Turf Lock and Powderham, means that the 16 mile route around the Estuary, can now be enjoyed in its entirety for the first time.

80,000 South West employers benefit from Employment Allowance

New data released today reveals how over 850,000 UK employers are benefitting from the Employment Allowance, with 80,000 businesses benefitting in the South West.

The Employment Allowance is a reduction in National Insurance Contributions (NICs) that an employer pays on their employees, and is worth up to £2,000 for eligible businesses and charities.

Within the first six months of its launch 80,000 employers across the region had benefitted from the Employment Allowance. This number is expected to increase throughout the remainder of the tax year.

Local MP for Exeter, Ben Bradshaw, recently took time out of his busy schedule to visit the new Exeter HQ of WiFi SPARK – an entrepreneurial business that specialises in managed wireless solutions – to discover its secret to success.

£1,000 available to Exeter groups

RGB Building Supplies’ ‘Well Built Community Fund’ has already given away £1,000 worth of building materials to a charity, sports club and most recently a primary school.

The builders merchant, which has a branch on Alphinbrook Road, is now asking for community groups based in Exeter to get in contact and apply for the grant.

The Community Fund is helping various groups to complete work that they wouldn’t have otherwise been able to do. Perhaps a community centre is in need of some decoration, a youth group would like to create an outdoor area, or a church hall needs...
