Christmas jumper dining for Save the Children

The Rusty Pig in Ottery St Mary is hosting a festive Christmas Jumper fundraising feast for pre-Christmas revellers.

Diners joining the fun on Friday 19th December will be obliged to wear a jumper festooned with a seasonal motif or decoration, although chef Robin Rea believes some will go the extra mile.

“I’m sure we’ll be seeing some extra special efforts from creative Rusty Pig diners,” he said.

Robin will choose his favourite jumper on the night, and the wearer will enjoy their meal for free.

Young people in Exeter are being given the chance to apply for Wolseley UK’s customer service apprenticeship scheme via a vacancy at its Plumb Center branch on Sowton Industrial Estate in Exeter.

Wolseley UK provides construction products and materials through a nationwide branch network, including Plumb and Parts Center, Pipe Center, Climate Center, Drain Center and William Wilson. The UK’s major energy suppliers have launched a nationwide campaign to help reunite customers with cash owed to them by their former energy supplier.

'My Energy Credit' enables energy consumers to claim credit repayments through a new 'My Energy Credit' helpline 0370 737 7770 and freepost address (see below) in addition to www.myenergycredit.com website which launched in September. 'Weather Bomb' headed for SW

Weather experts were today tracking the route of a 'Weather Bomb' which is headed for Britain.

The South West was placed on a Yellow Alert for Friday as gusts of up to 70 mph were predicted.

The Met Office said an area of low pressure has the potential to develop in the mid-Atlantic and then run quickly east northeast across the northern half of the UK during the first half of Friday.

To the south of this low pressure centre, gales, or severe gales are likely to develop, with gusts in excess of 50 mph quite widely in the warning area.

Stagecoach Group is one of the top 20 most admired businesses in the UK, according to an authoritative annual survey of corporate reputation.

The transport group, which operates bus and rail services in the UK and North America, was rated 20th out of nearly 240 businesses across 24 sectors in the Britain’s Most Admired Companies (BMAC) 2014 Awards.

Exploring the impact of TASERs

Social Scientists at the University of Exeter have called for a greater comparative analysis of the impact of TASERs used in law enforcement. The next generation of the electric-shock weapon used by police forces in England and Wales is currently under review. The research published in the Oxford Journal of Policing / Policing: A Journal of Policy and Practice suggests that in order to evaluate the impact of TASERs, better data collection on other force, such as batons and irritant spray, used by the police would assist in providing a clearer understanding of the impact on officer safety...

Exeter sun routes return with Flybe

Exeter Airport’s 2015 Flybe summer routes have been announced by the airline and they include the return of its sun routes to Alicante, Faro, Malaga and Palma Mallorca for another season, with choice of up to 14 outbound flights a week operated by 118-seat E195 jet aircraft.

Flybe will operate 16 routes and up to 110 flights a week across its extensive UK and Europe network from Exeter. Flybe tickets are on sale from £29.99 one way including taxes and charges and currently available for travel between 29 March and 3 September 2015.

Biking Santas make a sight for sore eyes!

There was a sight to see around Exeter on Sunday for those doing some Christmas shopping as over a hundred motorbikers dressed as Santas, elves, reindeer and even a festive banana went through the city in convoy, taking part in a festive ride with a difference. The riders were on their way from their meeting place at Exeter Services to deliver piles of Christmas toys they were donating to youngsters with life-limiting illnesses at the Little Bridge Children’s Hospice South West in North Devon.

A Critically Endangered monkey with a rare medical condition has been treated by a team of zoo experts and South West veterinary specialists.

Animal care staff at Paignton Zoo Environmental Park took the sick primate for a CT scan at a veterinary hospital in Somerset. JR – full name Jean-Robert - is a brown or variegated spider monkey Ateles hybridus The species, which is listed as Critically Endangered, comes from South America.

City Centre Manager to leave his post
