Nominations are open to highlight mental health heroes in Devon.
The Deputy Prime Minister is calling on people to nominate unsung mental health heroes in their local area as part of his campaign to raise awareness of mental health problems. One in four people will experience a mental health problem this year but for many the stigma and discrimination that surrounds mental health will make it harder for them to speak out and seek the support they need. That’s why the Deputy Prime Minister is calling for nominations for local Mental Health Heroes to celebrate those from every region...
With the New Year underway, Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service are asking people to make one of their resolutions in 2015 to check that their smoke alarms are up to date and are in the right place to protect their home.
Many people see January as an opportunity for a fresh start, and safety should be no exception. So this month we are encouraging everyone to make sure they have enough working smoke alarms in their home.
A smoke alarm can give someone the few extra seconds they need to escape in a fire. But while the majority of homes across the country now have...
Just before Christmas, three boys from the SWITCH youth club, run by East Devon District Council community development workers, came into the council offices at Knowle to work on their winning logo design with a professional graphic artist – and to collect their prizes.
The logo is for a joint partnership project where HALFF – a food charity based in Axminster – have been encouraging the young people to work together, cooking food from scratch. They will also be creating their own recipes and turning them into a book.
The name they came up with for the project is FOODtastic...

Since the last report in July 2014, the Business in Britain report’s key confidence index...

Young people struggling to find work will have the opportunity to boost their job prospects thanks to a Rugby World Cup 2015 inspired project set up by Exeter City Council and the Exeter and Heart of Devon Employability and Skills Board.
Launched at Sandy Park, the two-week pilot programme uses sport to inspire 16–24 year olds, giving them new life skills and confidence to help them progress into the work place, an apprenticeship or further training.
If successful, the hope is that additional funding can be secured to roll out the programme through 2015, so more people can...
Paul Diviani sends New Year message to East Devon residents:
In the darkest, nay, dampest, days of winter, I always feel driven to think positively of the future. It seems so long since 2008 when the financial world changed and with it the world of local Government.
Over the years, we have always been a cautious Council and that has largely paid off when the going got rough. We have protected our frontline services and cut and trimmed our back office requirements. Our satisfaction ratings are the highest they have ever been with the exception of planning – but the latter is...
Green Baroness, Jenny Jones, today backed local campaigners calling to bring the Railway network and its operation into public hands.
Local Green Party campaigners joined Union representatives at Exeter St David’s and Central Stations to greet commuters as they headed back to work. The action was one of many across the South West and other parts of the UK taking place in the wake of the annual hike in rail fares.
Diana Moore, the Green Party’s prospective parliamentary candidate in Exeter, joined today’s demonstration outside Exeter St David’s station.
