WARNING: Severe weather to hit Devon

A weather warning for strong winds has been issued for the South West.

An unseasonably windy spell is likely across many parts of the UK later today (Monday), overnight and well into Tuesday, as active frontal systems sweep across the UK.

An initial swathe of southerly gales will move east across many parts later on Monday, giving gusts to 50 mph widely but 60-65 mph across exposed Irish Sea and perhaps some English Channel coasts.

Everys Solicitors invite businesses to second networking event

Everys Solicitors is holding a networking event at the Mercure Exeter Southgate Hotel next month and would like to invite extra guests to join them.

This will be the second networking event held by the Southernhay Gardens-based firm after the first one was held on April 17 and attracted 40 guests.

This event costs £25 per person and will start at 5.30pm on Thursday, June 25. Ticket price includes a barbecue supper.

Police investigate bus station incident

Police are investigating an incident that occurred at Exeter Bus Station on Paris Street at around 10am on Wednesday 27th May.

The incident took place on the upper deck of the bus station and involved a man, woman, and three children. A member of the public is known to have intervened to defuse the situation and police would also like to speak to this woman.

Child accidents peak at teatime

Teatime is dangerous for children in the South West. That’s when serious accidents peak, according to findings released today by the Child Accident Prevention Trust.

The charity reveals how the end of the day spells the start of danger for children in the South West, with nearly half of all serious road accidents occurring between 3pm and 7pm. And the danger doesn’t stop there – children are also more than twice as likely to suffer a serious burn between 3pm and 6pm as they are during the morning.

"Blue army" is charity's secret weapon

A local conservation charity is using Volunteers’ Week (1st to 7th June) to recruit people who are retired or near retirement to its “blue army” of volunteers. The Whitley Wildlife Conservation Trust runs Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts in Torquay; volunteers in their blue uniforms are a familiar sight at both zoos.

At Paignton Zoo 153 volunteers supported 12 departments and donated over 22,000 hours last year. At the much smaller Living Coasts, 37 volunteers tackled 19 different roles and in 2014 gave 5,239 hours – that’s equivalent to 654 working days. In addition, the Whitley...

On Saturday 30th May 1,500 runners took part in the world’s most colourful 5km, running, walking and dancing, filling Great Fulford grounds with colour.

Bringing the spectacular explosion of Run or Dye colour to the beautiful grounds and extensive parkland of the Great Fulford estate, the event saw runners and walkers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the most colourful event Great Fulford has ever seen.

Running, walking and even dancing their way around the course at Great Fulford, participants included students from Exeter University, local schoolchildren and families...

Urgent appeal to find missing woman

Officers are becoming increasingly concerned for the welfare of a missing Weymouth woman and are asking for the public’s help in finding her.

Anita Hansford, 55, was last seen at 8.30am on Saturday 30 May 2015 at her home in the Sutton Poyntz area of the town.

It is believed that Anita (pictured) was in the Weymouth or Dorchester area at around 11am on Saturday morning and may have travelled to Exeter arriving by 6.30pm. Her whereabouts at this time are unknown.

Anita is described as white, five feet six inches tall, of medium build with shoulder-length hair dyed...
