Grant available for animal welfare groups

Following the relaunch of RGB Building Supplies’ Well Built Community Fund in April, the builders merchant is now calling for groups and charities that support animal welfare issues in the Exeter area to get in contact and tell them what help they need.

Whether a group needs materials to build or repair new animal enclosures, update facilities or create a new space, RGB would like to find out how £1,000 worth of materials could help.

Lending support to carers

This Carers Week (8-14 June) Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service as part of the Fire Kills campaign is reaching out to local carers and reminding them that help is available to keep them, and the people they care for safe from fire.

A recent survey showed that more than half of the people who had tested someone else’s smoke alarm had done so for an older family member. But there are many other issues a carer must think about – from the extra time it takes for people with difficulty moving to escape a fire in the home, to the added risks of flammable equipment such as...

Scientists in Cornwall are about to begin an innovative study that will shed light on how surfers exposed to human sewage and diffuse pollution in seawater might be affected by antibiotic resistant bacteria.

To help them, the group from the University of Exeter Medical School is joining forces with environmental charity, Surfer’s Against Sewage, and calling on surfers across the country to help by providing samples gathered from rectal swabs.

In the first project of its kind, the Beach Bums study wants to recruit 150 surfers and bodyboarders who surf at least three times a...
