Exeter one of UK’s top 10 nuisance call hotspots

Research by Community CallBLOCKER, a new service which allows victims of nuisance calls to block unwanted numbers, record and share them with the CallBLOCKING Community, reveals that Exeter is one of the UK’s top nuisance call hotpots.

Community CallBLOCKER, commissioned YouGov to find out the extent of the nuisance call epidemic across the nation. Highlights for Exeter include:

PCE engineers gain DAB qualifications

All of Premier Communications Electronics’ (PCE) engineers have gained industry-recognised qualifications to carry out safe DAB upgrades to in-vehicle radios.

The Government is committed to a digital switchover and the car industry has joined the cause with around 40% of new vehicles fitted with digital radios.

However, they will be plenty of vehicles still using FM/AM radios. Their owners will need to install replacement DAB radios or upgrade their existing ones to prepare for the switchover.

Politeness could be costing businesses money

Research released today reveals that over politeness in the workplace could be detrimental to Plymouth businesses.

The research conducted by online expenses management provider, webexpenses, found that a staggering 82% of office-based business managers claim that being too polite could be costing their organisation money.

When asked if they were too polite when managing difficult situations at work, two thirds of respondents (74%) said that they were. In addition, as many as 22% of managers said that they have not challenged the people they manage about taking too long on...

Chronic pain relief explored by Exeter academic in BBC documentary

Life expectancy in the developed world is increasing, but for those with chronic pain, living longer could be seen as more of a curse than a blessing.

A University of Exeter academic will be exploring ground-breaking research into relieving chronic pain in a BBC Radio 4 documentary on 15 July at 9pm.

Have your say on new Exeter Park and Ride

A consultation will be held on proposals for a new Park and Ride on the south west outskirts of Exeter.

Devon County Council is developing plans for the site adjacent to the A30/A377 interchange, between the westbound A30 slip road and the road that leads out towards Ide.

Consultation events will be held at West Exe School on Tuesday 21 July, from 4pm to 8pm, and at Ide Village Hall on Thursday 23 July, from 4pm to 8pm.

Part night street lighting roll-out continues

Around 630 streetlights in residential streets in Priory and St Leonard’s will be converted to part-night lighting from Monday 13 July.

The converted streetlights, previously on all-night, will be switched off from about 12:30am to 5:30am, before coming on again until dawn. The change is part of Devon County Council’s on-going programme to reduce costs and carbon emissions across the county.

Cup thrown from car smashes coach windscreen

Police are appealing for information after the windscreen of a coach, carrying children, was damaged by a cup thrown from a car near Exeter.

The Hamilton Gray coach was travelling on the A379 Dawlish Road, near Exminster, at 4.10pm on Wednesday 8 July when the cup was thrown from a small red vehicle that was also moving at the time.

The windscreen of the Volvo coach smashed, with glass showering the driver and passengers, who were children. No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

Sounds of the summer at Knightshayes

Knightshayes is hosting its third annual celebration of local food and music in the parkland on every Sunday during August. These are free events for the whole family.

Soupstock was started in 2013 as a way to help new audiences discover Knightshayes.
